A glassy carbon electrode modified by a triply-fused-like Co( ii ) polyporphine and its ability for sulphite oxidation and detection

2018

This article presents a Co(II) polyporphine conductive polymer easily and rapidly obtained (less than 2 h 30 min) on the surface of a glassy carbon electrode from the transformation of an initial Mg(II) porphine solution in a four-step process (including electrochemical and chemical stages). The intimate molecular structure is argued on the basis of the electrochemical response of the modified electrode, as well as its surface characterization. Owing to its apparent stability in water over potential cycling and its high density in active Co(II) centers, the electrosynthesized film shows its ability to catalyze sulphite oxidation in aqueous solutions. The mechanism of this molecular catalysi…

Electrochemical and spectroscopic study on thiolation of polyaniline

2013

Abstract Polyaniline (PANI) is a conducting polymer, easily synthesized and lucrative for many electrochemical applications like ion-selective sensors and biosensors. Thiolated molecules, including biological ones, can be bound by nucleophilic attachment to the polyaniline backbone. These covalently bound thiols add functionality to PANI, but also cause changes in the electrochemical properties of PANI. Polyaniline studied in this work was electropolymerized on glassy carbon electrodes. 2-Mercaptoethanol (MCE) and 6-(ferrocenyl)hexanethiol (FCHT) were used as the thiols to form functionalized films. The films were characterized by cyclic voltammetry (CV), ex situ FTIR and Raman spectroscopi…

dsDNA, ssDNA, G-quadruplex DNA, and nucleosomal DNA electrochemical screening using canthin-6-one alkaloid-modified electrodes

2014

Abstract Microparticulate films of a canthin-6-one alkaloid ( L ), a natural β-carboline alkaloid presenting a characteristic naphtyridone motif, on glassy carbon electrodes yield different, separate voltammetric signals for dsDNA, ssDNA, G-quadruplex DNA, different degrees of DNA methylation and the biomimetic nucleosomal DNA with detection limit of 10 −5  M. This multiple-signal electrochemical behavior is in contrast with conventional use of DNA intercalators, only discriminating between different DNA forms by variations in the intensity of a unique signal. Complementary photochemical and scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM) data suggest that the differences in the voltammetric res…

Selective and Scalable Electrosynthesis of 2H-2-(Aryl)-benzo[d]-1,2,3-triazoles and Their N-Oxides by Using Leaded Bronze Cathodes.

2020

Abstract Electrosynthesis of 2H‐2‐(aryl)benzo[d]‐1,2,3‐triazoles and their N‐oxides from 2‐nitroazobenzene derivatives is reported. The electrolysis is conducted in a very simple undivided cell under constant current conditions with a leaded bronze cathode and a glassy carbon anode. The product distribution between 2H‐2‐(aryl)benzo[d]‐1,2,3‐triazoles and their N‐oxides can be guided by simply controlling the current density and the amount of the charge applied. The reaction tolerates several sensitive functional groups in reductive electrochemistry. The usefulness and the applicability of the synthetic method is demonstrated by a formal synthesis of an antiviral compound.

Bio-inspired Ni dinuclear complexes as heterogeneous catalysts for hydrogen evolution

2021

Abstract A major challenge in the sustainable production of hydrogen is lowering the electrochemical overpotential and the activation energy of the hydrogen evolution reaction. Some enzymes have two metallic Ni centers and catalyze this reaction with high activity. Taking inspiration from them, we have developed two novel dinuclear Ni(II) complexes, Ni-PATIO and Ni-PACO, with promise as molecular catalysts. Ni-PACO exhibits a square-planar geometry for both Ni(II) and two-fold rotational symmetry both in solid and solution states, whereas Ni-PATIO displays one square-planar Ni(II) center and one octahedral Ni(II) configuration, which confer it magnetic properties. We show that both complexe…

Highly Modular Flow Cell for Electroorganic Synthesis

2017

A highly modular electrochemical flow cell and its application in electroorganic synthesis is reported. This innovative setup facilitates many aspects: an easy adjustment of electrode distance, quick exchange of electrode material, and the possibility to easily switch between a divided or undivided cell. However, the major benefit of the cell is the exact thermal positioning of the electrode material into a Teflon piece. Thereby, the application of expensive and nonmachinable electrode materials like boron-doped diamond or glassy carbon can easily be realized in flow cells. By this geometry, the maximum surface of such valuable electrode materials is exploited. The cell size can compete wit…

Optimizing the nickel boride layer thickness in a spectroelectrochemical ATR-FTIR thin-film flow cell applied in glycerol oxidation

2021

Abstract The influence of the drop-casted nickel boride catalyst loading on glassy carbon electrodes was investigated in a spectroelectrochemical ATR-FTIR thin-film flow cell applied in alkaline glycerol electrooxidation. The continuously operated radial flow cell consisted of a borehole electrode positioned 50 µm above an internal reflection element enabling operando FTIR spectroscopy. It is identified as a suitable tool for facile and reproducible screening of electrocatalysts under well-defined conditions, additionally providing access to the selectivities in complex reaction networks such as glycerol oxidation. The fast product identification by ATR-IR spectroscopy was validated by the …

Discrimination of papers used in conservation and restoration by the means of the voltammetry of immobilized microparticles technique

2019

Herein, voltammetry of immobilized microparticles (VIMP) is employed for the discrimination of papers used in the conservation and restoration field. The electrochemical parameters are used for the discrimination of different samples coming from China, Japan and Korea. The method is based on the recording of the voltammetric response of microparticulate deposits from acetone extracts of paper samples deposited on a glassy carbon electrode in contact with 1.0 M H2SO4. The voltammetric responses attributed to the lignin and the oxidation products of the cellulose were collected and are discussed. The grouping of samples was obtained upon the application of the chemometric methods, as well as …

Nanoindentation and Raman Spectroscopic Study of Graphite Irradiated with Swift238U Ions

2012

Modifications of the structure and mechanical properties of the isotropic fine-grained graphite R6650 irradiated with 2.6 GeV 238U ions at fluences up to 1013 ions/cm2 at room temperature are studied. A strong ion-induced increase of Young's modulus and hardness is observed that points to the formation of a hard form of carbon. Raman spectra ascertain the disordering of graphite and its transformation to glassy carbon.

ELECTRODEPOSITION OF NOVEL POLY(NAPHTHALENEDIIMIDE-QUATERTHIOPHENE) THIN FILMS AND APPLICATIONS IN PLASTIC OPTOELECTRONICS DEVICES

2013

A novel symmetric naphthalenediimide-quaterthiophene derivative (NDIT4d) has been polymerized on different substrates including glassy carbon and ITO/PET electrodes by means of electrochemical methods. XPS and UV-VIS spectroscopy as well as cyclic voltammetry have been employed for characterizing the thin film chemical features, the band gap and the HOMO and LUMO levels. DFT computational studies were in close agreement with the experimental observables also showing intriguing geometrical effects on the band gap energy values. The comparison of the energy levels locations of the electrodeposited poly(naphthalenediimide-quaterthiophene) derivative (e-PNDIT4) and P3HT thin films transferred b…
