Dimensions of cosmopolitanism and their influence on political consumption: an analysis focused on Spanish consumers

2013

The purpose of this study was to confirm the hypothesis that political consumption ‐ a form of consumerism whose importance has increased during the past few years ‐ can be considered a form of critical action, and that cosmopolitanism contributes to its development. The main objective was, first, to analyse an unexplored dimension of political consumption and, second, to obtain a measurement proposal for what some authors have called ordinary cosmopolitanism. The study, based on a survey, was divided into three sections. The first section offers a theoretical introduction to the study proposal. The second describes the hypothesis and the data analysis strategy, and proposes an operationali…

Determinants of website traffic: the case of European fashion apparel retailers

2014

The globalization process together with the extraordinary growth in the use of Internet offer firms new growth opportunities. Retail firms are using a multichannel approach, involving the Internet, in their internationalization strategies. Website traffic as measured by unique users and online awareness is among the measures for assessing the success of the online channel. There is little evidence, however, linking website traffic and the characteristics of the retail multichannel internationalization process. In order to fill this gap, this paper analyses the factors explaining the retailer's international website traffic. Website traffic data for a sample of European fashion apparel retai…

Regional banks in the global financial crisis: in search of new relationship models with local stakeholders

2017

The contribution attempts to find a confirmation of the theoretical statements presented by carrying out both a theoretical and an empirical analysis concerning credit institutions as a reference point for cooperative banks. We are referring to the so called 'popular banks' with their existing limits, compared with the rest of the Italian banking system, analysing the deposits, loans and bad debts in the years from 1995 to 2013; they have also proved to be more stable than the rest of the financial market during the last crisis (2008). Finally, in this era of globalisation it is highlighted how the regional bank model has to evolve by responding to the calls coming from the new competitive …

The Value of Trust for Travel Agencies in Achieving Customers' Attitudinal Loyalty

2015

The emergence of e-commerce in the tourism sector has triggered profound changes in the sector's structure. Travel agencies, as the final link in the distribution chain, have been most affected. The globalization of tourism service distributors via the internet has caused competition to intensify and has had strong repercussions. Nevertheless, many travel agencies that also offer online services remain competitive and maintain a loyal customer base. Drawing on data from customers used to purchasing tourism services over the internet, this study analyzed changes in these customers' perceptions of the value offered by traditional travel agencies. Considering the loyalty of clients as a key el…

Fair trade and global cognitive orientation: a focus on Spanish fair trade consumers

2007

In the past few years, there has been an increase in the ‘ethical consumer’, characterized by more reflexive values like solidarity, social responsibility, multiculturalism and ecology. This idea has found support in the appearance and development of proposals like fair trade, along with others, such as responsible consumption, the recycling business or sustainable development. In a parallel way, also during the past few years, various analysts have pointed out that the phenomenon of globalization is changing not only the aspect of the world but also our way of perceiving it, which is progressively becoming a ‘global orientation’. In the framework of these two tendencies, this paper examine…
