2010

X-ALD and P-NALD are two rare, peroxisomal metabolic and neurodegenerative diseases. ABCD1 and ACOX1 are known to be responsible for X-ALD and P-NALD, respectively. The actively demyelinating lesions in CNS, exhibited signs of oxidative stress and cell death. The accumulation of VLCFA in plasma and tissue is the biochemical common hallmark to both diseases. First, we characterized a murine oligodendrocytes cell line 158N to use it as a model. This 158N cell line which has characteristics of mature oligodendrocytes (expression of myelin proteins MOG, MBP, PLP), has also functional peroxisomes with Abcd1 and Acox1 proteins. Then, we studied the cytotoxic and pro-oxidative effects of VLCFA (C2…

Oligodendrocytes are the myelinating glial cells of the central nervous system. In the course of brain development, oligodendrocyte precursor cells migrate, scan the environment and differentiate into mature oligodendrocytes with multiple cellular processes which recognize and ensheath neuronal axons. During differentiation, oligodendrocytes undergo dramatic morphological changes requiring cytoskeletal rearrangements which need to be tightly regulated. The non-receptor tyrosine kinase Fyn plays a central role in oligodendrocyte differentiation and myelination. In order to improve our understanding of the role of oligodendroglial Fyn kinase, we have identified Fyn targets in these cells. Pur…

Induction of the peroxisome proliferator activated receptor by fenofibrate in rat liver

1992

AbstractThe process of peroxisome proliferation in rodent liver by hypolipidemic compounds and related substances has recently been shown to be receptor-madiated. In the present study, we have examined the effect of oral administration of the strong peroxisome proliferator fenofibrate on the hepatic expression level of the peroxisome proliferator activated receptor (PPAR) in rats. Immunoblots of rat liver cytosols and nuclear extracs using antibodies raised against recombinant PPAR/β-galactosidase fusion proteins revealed a pronounced increase in the amount of PPAR protein in response to fenofibrate treatment. This induction could also be confirmed at the level or RNA by Northern blotting. …

Prezidenta vēlēšanas Baltkrievijā

2022

2021

Population history in social spiders repeated: colony structure and lineage evolution inStegodyphus mimosarum(Eresidae)

2009

Social cooperative spiders from diverse taxonomic families share life-history and demographic traits, including highly inbred colony structure. The combination of traits suggests constrained pathways for social evolution in spiders. The genus Stegodyphus has three independently evolved social species, which can be used as replicate samples to analyse population constraints in evolutionary time. We tested colony structure and population history of the social S. mimosarum from South and East Africa using mitochondrial DNA variation, and we compared the results to published data for the independently evolved social congener S. dumicola. S. mimosarum had many and diverse haplotypes (5-7% sequen…

Strategies in Glioma-Surgery

2011

1.1 Epidemiology and classification of gliomas Malignant glioma is one of the most feared diseases in the industrialized nations. About 77% of all malignant tumors within the central nervous system are gliomas. There are about 18.000 newly diagnosed cases annually within the USA (9/100.000 inhabitants per year) and the disease causes about 13.000 deaths each year. Statistically this is a higher loss of life-time than all other tumor-entities together (Schwartzbaum et al., 2006). About 45-50% of these gliomas are histologically classified as gliobalstoma multiforme (GBM) the most aggressive type of glioma which is classified as WHO grade IV (following the classification of Kleihues et al., 2…

Down-regulation of Glutathione and Bcl-2 Synthesis in Mouse B16 Melanoma Cells Avoids Their Survival during Interaction with the Vascular Endothelium

2003

B16 melanoma (B16M) cells with high GSH content show high metastatic activity. However, the molecular mechanisms linking GSH to metastatic cell survival are unclear. The possible relationship between GSH and the ability of Bcl-2 to prevent cell death was studied in B16M cells with high (F10) and low (F1) metastatic potential. Analysis of a Bcl-2 family of genes revealed that B16M-F10 cells, as compared with B16M-F1 cells, overexpressed preferentially Bcl-2 (approximately 5.7-fold). Hepatic sinusoidal endothelium-induced B16M-F10 cytotoxicity in vitro increased from approximately 19% (controls) to approximately 97% in GSH-depleted B16M-F10 cells treated with an antisense Bcl-2 oligodeoxynucl…
