Goldmann Tonometry After Hyperopic Laser In Situ Keratomileusis

2004

PURPOSE To identify differences in applanation tonometry between retreated and nonretreated eyes (primary LASIK eyes) 6 months after hyperopic laser in situ keratomileusis. METHODS In a prospective study 100 eyes (100 patients) underwent conventional hyperopic laser in situ keratomileusis under a 160-microm flap. Central Goldmann applanation tonometry was determined before and 6 months after surgery in 78 (78%) primary LASIK eyes and before surgery and 6 months after the retreatment date in 22 (22%) retreated eyes. RESULTS Preoperative mean tonometry was 14.96 +/- 1.96 mm Hg and 15.30 +/- 1.95 mm Hg in primary LASIK and retreated eyes, respectively. Six months after surgery it was 12.99 +/-…

Influence of the luminance level on visual performance with a disposable soft cosmetic tinted contact lens.

2001

The purpose of the present work was to study the effect on visual performance of wearing disposable soft tinted contact lenses for cosmetic purposes. Parameters such as contrast sensitivity (Vistech 6000), colour vision (Farnsworth-Munsell 100-Hue colour test), visual fields (static Goldmann perimetry) and subjective vision (what the wearer feels while wearing the lenses) were studied under different illumination levels in order to check for possible vision losses while wearing these contact lenses at low illumination levels. Sixteen emmetropic subjects were fitted consecutively with seven pairs of different colour lenses (Optima Colors lenses by BauschLomb), and the experimental parameters…

Goldmann Applanation Tonometry Using Sterile Disposable Silicone Tonometer Shields

1996

Abstract Purpose: Placement of a sterile single-use cover over the tonometer tip may be a convenient and safe alternative method to repeated chemical disinfection. This study was undertaken to evaluate the accuracy and performance of Goldmann applanation tonometry using a sterile disposable silicone tonometer shield over the biprism tip. Methods: The same investigator measured intraocular pressure in 120 eyes with and without the shield. The eyes were tested randomly first with either the uncovered or the covered tonometer to control for the possible effects of repeated tonometry influencing measurement differences. Readings were recorded independently in a masked fashion. Results: The intr…

Comparison of Dynamic Contour Tonometry and Goldmann Applanation Tonometry in Glaucoma Patients and Healthy Subjects

2006

To investigate the agreement in the measurement of intraocular pressure (IOP) obtained by dynamic contour tonometry PASCAL (DCT-PASCAL) and Goldmann applanation tonometry (GAT) in glaucoma eyes and healthy eyes with different central corneal thickness (CCT).Prospective cross-sectional study. In a randomized order, three consecutive IOP measurements were performed on 197 eyes of 107 subjects by one examiner using both DCT-PASCAL and GAT on all eyes. Furthermore, ultrasonic pachymetry was performed. The Spearman correlation coefficient (r) was determined to compare IOP readings between DCT-PASCAL and GAT. Regression-based Bland and Altman analysis was used to evaluate agreement between the ins…

The relationship between central corneal thickness and Goldmann applanation tonometry

2003

The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between Goldmann applanation tonometry and central corneal thickness in a large sample of healthy eyes.Five hundred eyes of 500 subjects (253 women, 50.6 per cent and 247 men, 49.4 per cent) were analysed in a prospective healthy population study. Mean age of the sample was 31 +/- 8 years. Goldmann applanation tonometry was carried out by one physician. Tonometric values were the mean of three consecutive readings. Subsequently, another physician carried out ultrasonic pachymetry with the DGH 2000 AP ultrasonic pachymeter (DGH Technology Inc, San Diego, USA). Ten measurements were made at the centre of the cornea of each eye. The low…

Transpalpebral tonometry: reliability and comparison with Goldmann applanation tonometry and palpation in healthy volunteers

2005

Background/aim: TGDc-01 is a new, portable, transpalpebral tonometry device. The aim of this study was to evaluate the reproducibility of this method, including intraobserver and interobserver deviations, and to compare the results with those of Goldmann applanation tonometry and palpation of intraocular pressure (IOP). Methods: A total of 40 eyes of 20 healthy volunteers were included. Two independent parallel observers (1 and 2) performed three replicate measurements per eye, respectively, both using TGDc01 tonometry, one observer (3) performed three replicate measurements using Goldmann applanation tonometry, and one observer (4) measured the IOP via palpation. Intraindividual deviations…

Influence of Refraction on Tonometric Readings After Photorefractive Keratectomy and Laser Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis

2000

PURPOSE To determine the decrease of Goldmann tonometry after photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) and laser assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) according to refraction prior to surgery. METHODS Prospective simultaneous comparative case series of 53 myopic eyes (53 patients) that underwent PRK and 50 (50 patients) that underwent LASIK using the Summit Excimed SVS plus (Summit Technology, Inc., Walthan, MA, U.S.A.). PRK and LASIK were subdivided by refractive error into two subgroups of more than or less than -5 diopters (D). Central tonometric readings were taken prior to surgery and 12 months after surgery. RESULTS In LASIK and PRK subgroups of more than -5 D, 85.7% (24) and 69.6% (24), r…

Comparison of cyclodeviation and duction measurement in Graves' orbitopathy patients using different devices

2011

To compare measurement outcomes of different devices measuring cyclodeviation and ductions in Graves' orbitopathy (GO) patients. Cyclodeviation in GO patients was measured using the Harms tangent screen (HTS), the cycloforometer of Franceschetti, and the synoptometer. Ductions were measured using the modified perimeter, the Goldmann perimeter and the Maddox tangent scale (MTS). In 13 patients, cyclodeviation in primary position, up-, and downgaze was measured with the above-mentioned devices. The mean differences ranged from 0.3º to 3.1º and were smallest between the HTS and the cycloforometer (89% of all measurements within 2º difference). Measurement of abduction, adduction, elevation, an…

A comparison of the Canon TX-20P™ non-contact tonometer and pachymeter in healthy eyes

2012

Background: The aim of this study was to compare the intraocular pressure (IOP) and the central corneal thickness (CCT) measurements obtained with the Canon TX-20P™ with IOP measured with Goldmann applanation tonometer (GAT) and the CCT measured with ultrasound (US) pachymetry in healthy eyes. Methods: Thirty one healthy voluntary subjects participated in the study, age ranging from 16 to 81 years (mean age 50.9 years). In total 58 eyes were selected for analysis. All measurements were performed by the same examiner. The measurements were taken in the same order in all subjects: Canon IOP and CCT, Goldmann IOP and US CCT. Results: A strong correlation was found between IOP for both CCT comp…

Intenzionalità collettiva, ontologia sociale e mindreading

2014

In his Collective Intentions and Actions John Searle argued that having a preintentional sense of others as at least potentially cooperative agents “like me” is a necessary condition of collective intentionality. He also argued, in Rationality in Action, that understanding others qua intentional agents necessarily presupposes rationality because rational constraints are built into the logical structure of intentional phenomena. In this paper we will try to specify further these claims in the light of current debate on mindreading, where other-understanding is spelled out either in terms of automatic, subpersonal simulative mechanisms, or in terms of normative, rational principles. We will a…
