Alcuni cliché descrittivi, adoperati per la città contemporanea, sembrano potersi usare ovunque sia necessario tratteggiare caratteri urbani privi di qualunque specificità. Fra le valutazioni stereotipate prevale quella della città-caos, soprattutto quando la struttura urbana si presenta come unica nebulosa antropica in cui è impossibile identificare i diversi nuclei urbani che la compongono. Tale condizione sembra essere del tutto estranea alla realtà di Manfredonia che è nettamente distinta dagli altri centri che insistono sull'ampia pianura del Gargano. In the last few years, a significant number of new golf courses have been built in Sicily, a land where golf has not traditionally been an overwhelmingly popular sport. The favorable climate in the region provides the possibility to practice all year long, and has been viewed by local entrepreneurs as a way for benefiting both the local economy as well as providing a healthy and socially engaging atmosphere for the players. This paper aims to provide a clear and compelling look at this up and coming opportunity from a geographical point of view, proposing an analysis of location choices and environmental impact as well as highlighting the positive impacts to the Sicilian tourism industry.

Background: Golf swing performance in medium- to high-handicap players must be reliably measured to use this variable in both research studies and in applied settings. Nevertheless, there are no studies published on this topic and test–retest evidence is only available for low-handicap players. Corpi sedimentari caratterizzati da facies sismica “trasparente” di notevole spessore (sino a 35 m) sono stati documentati in più livelli della copertura tardo-pleistocenica della Piana Abissale del Mar Ionio ed interpretati come megatorbiditi innescate da megatsunami. Sea surges in the Gulf of Lions are mainly forced by southerly and south-easterly winds. This regional-scale atmospheric circulation is leading by a strong zonal gradient between low pressure system over the Bay of Biscay and high pressure over central Europe. This synoptic-scale circulation mostly happens during “Greenland Above” weather regime. In the second half of the 20th century, a slow increase of the sea-level pressure over central Europe increased the probability of having “Greenland Above” weather types associated with a southerly atmospheric circulation in the Gulf of Lions, thus leading to strong surges.
