Predictive value of morphologic parameters for successful correction of Class II Division 2 malocclusion

Abstract The aim of this study was to assess the predictive value of pretreatment cephalometric parameters and apical base size for successful correction of Angle Class II Division 2 malocclusion. Pretreatment lateral cephalograms and pretreatment and posttreatment study casts of 96 subjects with Class II Division 2 malocclusions were examined to obtain 23 cephalometric parameters and to measure the size of the apical bases. Success of occlusal correction was evaluated as the percentage of change of peer assessment rating scores during treatment; percentage of change was the dependent variable in multivariate statistical analyses used to test the predictive value of the assessed parameters.…

Anandamide-induced apoptosis in Chang liver cells involves ceramide and JNK/AP-1 pathway

In the present study we demonstrate that anandamide, the most important endogenous cannabinoid, markedly induced apoptosis in Chang liver cells, an immortalized non-tumor cell line derived from normal liver tissue, while it induced only modest effects in a number of hepatoma cell lines. The apoptotic effect was reduced by methyl-beta-cyclodextrin, a membrane cholesterol depletor, suggesting an interaction between anandamide and the membrane microdomains named lipid rafts. Anandamide effects were mediated by the production of ceramide, as demonstrated by experiments performed with the sphingomyelinase inhibitor, desipramine, or with the sphingomyelinase activator, melittin. Relationship between structure and CO oxidation activity of ceria supported gold catalysts

Gold catalysts supported on cerium oxide were prepared by solvated metal atom dispersion (SMAD), by deposition-precipitation (DP), and by coprecipitation (CP) methods and were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), temperature programmed reduction (TPR), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The catalytic activity was tested in the CO oxidation reaction. The structural and surface analyses evidenced the presence of a modified ceria phase in the case of the DP sample and the presence of pure ceria and gold metal crystallites in the case of the SMAD and CP samples. Martian zeolites as a source of atmospheric methane

The origin of the martian methane is still poorly understood. A plausible explanation is that methane could have been produced either by hydrothermal alteration of basaltic crust or by serpentinization of ultramafic rocks producing hydrogen and reducing crustal carbon into methane. Once formed, methane storage on Mars is commonly associated with the presence of hidden clathrate reservoirs. Stability analysis of neutral systems with mixed time-varying delays and nonlinear perturbations

In this paper, the problem of stability analysis for a class of neutral systems with mixed time-varying neutral, discrete and distributed delays and nonlinear perturbations are addressed. Reliability of Hemodynamic Parameters Measured by a Novel Photoplethysmography Device

Three channel photoplethysmography (PPG) signal pulse wave studies of the leg’s conduit arteries during rest conditions were performed. The obtained data of each channel showed similar values, proving arterial PPG as a reliable and repeatable method to assess arterial waveform parameters. A validation experiment was carried out by acquiring signals from three identical IR PPG sensors, which were placed on different sites over the leg’s conduit arteries during rest conditions.
