Comparative study on biological effects of the guinea pig complement-peptide C3a and C3a-related synthetic oligopeptides

Dose-response experiments with guinea pig C3a and a synthetic hexapeptide (amino acid residues 72–77), representing the COOH-terminal sequence of human C3a, were performed in two recently described bioassay systems for C3a, i.e. cytotoxicity against tumor cells measured as LDH and 51Cr-release and non cytolytic serotonin release from guinea pig platelets. Compared to the classical anaphylatoxic assay (guinea pig ileum contraction), nearly identical reactivities were observed in all three test systems with C3a and, although quantitatively different, with hexapeptide.
Dibutyryl cyclic AMP and adrenaline increase contractile force and 45Ca uptake in mammalian cardiac muscle

The effects of dibutyryl cyclic AMP (DB-AMP; 10−3M) and adrenaline (2.2×10−6 M) on contractile force, 45Ca uptake, and total myocardial Ca concentration were investigated in electrically driven left auricles isolated from rat hearts. The experiments were performed at an extracellular Ca concentration of 0.45 mM and at low frequency of stimulation (15 beats/min). 45Ca exposure was 5 min. Under the conditions used, both drugs increased contractile force and enhanced 45Ca uptake (expressed as relative specific activity) by about 30% (DB-AMP) and 40% (adrenaline), respectively. We examined the in vitro effects of tert-butylhydroperoxide (tBu-OOH) in human bronchial muscle. tert-Butylhydroperoxide produced concentration-dependent contractions of bronchial rings (maximum effect was 56.5 +/- 9.6% of contraction by 1 mM acetylcholine; effective concentration 50% was approximately 100 microM). tert-Butylhydroperoxide (0.5 mM)-induced contraction was enhanced by epithelial removal but abolished by indomethacin (cyclooxygenase inhibitor) and zileuton (lipoxygenase inhibitor). tert-Butylhydroperoxide produced a transient rise in intracellular calcium in human cultured airway smooth muscle cells (HCASMC). In this article the results of a quantitative and qualitative research into person deixis are shown and, generally, the ones related to the participative inscription, within the oral academic genre of the master class. In order to do so, this discursive genre has been contrasted with colloquial oral conversation and academic prose. According to the Hindustani music tradition, the ability of a song to induce certain emotions depends on the time of day: playing a song at the right time is said to maximise its emotional effect.
