Effect of cold drawing on mechanical properties of biodegradable fibers.
2016
Purpose Biodegradable polymers are currently gaining importance in several fields, because they allow mitigation of the impact on the environment related to disposal of traditional, nonbiodegradable polymers, as well as reducing the utilization of oil-based sources (when they also come from renewable resources). Fibers made of biodegradable polymers are of particular interest, though, it is not easy to obtain polymer fibers with suitable mechanical properties and to tailor these to the specific application. The main ways to tailor the mechanical properties of a given biodegradable polymer fiber are based on crystallinity and orientation control. However, crystallinity can only marginally be…
Carbonization of disclike molecules in porous alumina membranes: toward carbon nanotubes with controlled graphene-layer orientation.

Photo-induced magnetic bistability in a controlled assembly of anisotropic coordination nanoparticles.
2011
International audience; Anisotropic coordination nanoparticles of the photomagnetic network Cs(I)(2)Cu(II)(7)[Mo(IV)(CN)(8)](4) are obtained through a surfactant-free high-yield synthetic procedure in water. These particles are organised as Langmuir-Blodgett films with a preferential orientation of the nano-objects within the film that exhibit a magnetic bistability below 20 K with a very large coercivity due to an efficient photo-transformation.
Evidence for the verwey transition in highly nonstoichiometric nanometric fe-based ferrites
2001
The nanometric scale allows an investigation of the Verwey transition: the impact of varying degree of oxidation of Fe cations on this transition was studied by means of zero-field-cooled superconducting quantum interference device measurements in nanometric highly nonstoichiometric particles of pure and Ti-substituted magnetite synthesized using soft chemistry route. It is clearly shown that (i) there is a shift of the transition towards higher temperatures for nanometer scaled compounds and (ii) the amplitude, the temperature, and the order of the transition are only depending on the number of ${\mathrm{Fe}}^{2+}{/\mathrm{F}\mathrm{e}}^{3+}$ pairs in octahedral coordination.
Vacuum-ultraviolet absorption of amorphousSiO2: Intrinsic contribution and role of silanol groups
2008
We present a study on the vacuum-ultraviolet (VUV) absorption properties of amorphous ${\text{SiO}}_{2}$ $(a{\text{-SiO}}_{2})$ with high concentrations of silanol groups (Si-OH). We found that the absorption spectra are made up of a couple of exponential profiles. The first, in the range from $\ensuremath{\sim}7.5$ to $\ensuremath{\sim}8.1\text{ }\text{eV}$, was attributed to Si-OH group absorption, while the second, in the range from $\ensuremath{\sim}8.1$ to $\ensuremath{\sim}8.25\text{ }\text{eV}$, was ascribed to the intrinsic absorption. The VUV absorption cross section of Si-OH groups in $a{\text{-SiO}}_{2}$ was determined as well. The intrinsic absorption was found to be affected by…
Structural disorder and silanol groups content in amorphousSiO2
2009
We present a study on the features of the Urbach edge in amorphous silicon dioxide $(a{\text{-SiO}}_{2})$. The effects of temperature on the absorption edge in the range from 4 to 300 K were studied in both materials having negligible (dry, $l{10}^{17}\text{ }{\text{cm}}^{\ensuremath{-}3}$) and significant (wet, $g{10}^{19}\text{ }{\text{cm}}^{\ensuremath{-}3}$) silanol groups contents. Remarkable differences in the values and in the temperature dependence of the Urbach energy in the dry and wet samples were observed. These differences are interpreted as a consequence of a drastic reduction in the degree of disorder in wet materials, which turn out to be characterized by an electronic struc…
Polyamorphic transformation induced by electron irradiation ina-SiO2glass
2009
We report a study by electron paramagnetic resonance of amorphous silicon dioxide $(a{\text{-SiO}}_{2})$ irradiated by 2.5 MeV electrons in the dose range from $1.2\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{3}$ to $5\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{6}\text{ }\text{kGy}$. By measuring the change in the splitting of the primary $^{29}\text{S}\text{i}$ hyperfine doublet of the ${E}_{\ensuremath{\gamma}}^{\ensuremath{'}}$ centers we evidenced an irradiation induced local (around the defects) densification of $a{\text{-SiO}}_{2}$. Our data show that the local degree of densification of the materials is significantly higher than that obtained by mean density measurements, suggesting that the …
Strong chiral dichroism and enantiopurification in above-threshold ionization with locally chiral light
2021
We derive here a highly selective photoelectron-based chirality-sensing technique that utilizes “locally chiral” laser pulses. We show that this approach results in strong chiral discrimination, where the standard forwards/backwards asymmetry of photoelectron circular dichroism (PECD) is lifted. The resulting dichroism is larger and more robust than conventional PECD (especially in the high-energy part of the spectrum), is found in all hemispheres, and is not symmetric or antisymmetric with respect to any symmetry operator. Remarkably, chiral dichroism of up to 10% survives in the angularly integrated above-threshold ionization (ATI) spectra, and chiral dichroism of up to 5% survives in the…

Structural, electronic, and magnetic properties of pseudomorphic CrFe nanostripes on W(110)
2007
We have grown pseudomorphic binary ${\mathrm{Cr}}_{1\ensuremath{-}x}{\mathrm{Fe}}_{x}$ alloy monolayers and sequences of Cr and Fe nanostripes on W(110) by molecular-beam epitaxy in ultrahigh vacuum. By coadsorption of Cr and Fe a pseudomorphic random CrFe alloy grows on the W(110) substrate. At a substrate temperature of $700\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{K}$ the CrFe alloy forms monolayer stripes in the step flow growth mode. We have measured magnetic properties of the monolayer alloy for $0.75\ensuremath{\leqslant}x\ensuremath{\leqslant}1$ using Kerr magnetometry. At a constant relative temperature $t=T∕{T}_{C}$ the saturation value of the Kerr rotation shows a maximum at $x=0.95$ an…
