Microtomographic Quantification of Hydraulic Clay Mineral Displacement Effects During a CO2 Sequestration Experiment with Saline Aquifer Sandstone

We combined a noninvasive tomographic imaging technique with an invasive open-system core-flooding experiment and compared the results of the pre- and postflooded states of an experimental sandstone core sample from an ongoing field trial for carbon dioxide geosequestration. For the experiment, a rock core sample of 80 mL volume was taken from the 629 m Stuttgart Formation storage domain of a saline sandstone aquifer at the CCS research pilot plant Ketzin, Germany. Effect of electron-withdrawing substituents on the electrophilicity of carbonyl carbons

Indexación: Scopus The substituent effects on the carbonyl carbon atom for a series of twelve substituted phenyl acetates have been rationalized using a global electrophilicity index. This index is linearly correlated with the experimental reaction rate coefficients. We found that, in contrast to the proposed interpretation based on experimental 13C NMR chemical shifts and ground state destabilization calculations, the electrophilicity of carbonyl compounds increases due to the effect promoted by electron-withdrawing groups in these systems. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0040402004018046?via%3Dihub

Reversible switching of the electronic ground state in a pentacoordinated Cu(ii) complex.

International audience; An easy reversible switching of the electronic ground state in a pentacoordinated copper(ii) complex is reported for the first time. The simple protonation of a carboxylic group in a Cu(ii) complex with a {dx(2)-y(2)}(1) electronic configuration leads to a flip of the ground electronic configuration from {dx(2)-y(2)}(1) to {dz(2)}(1) in the metal ion.

A survey of mycotoxins in random street-vended snacks from Lagos, Nigeria, using QuEChERS-HPLC-MS/MS

Abstract A survey in African snacks was carried out in order to evaluate the intake of 23 mycotoxins. The African snack samples were purchased from street vendors within Lagos metropolis (Nigeria) and evaluated for the presence of 23 mycotoxins using a modified QuEChERS procedure coupled with liquid chromatography-triple quadrupole linear ion trap mass spectrometer. The snacks included akara, baked coconut, coconut candy, donkwa, groundnut cake (kulikuli), lafun, milk curd (wara), fresh and dried tiger-nuts, and yam flour. Output Field-Quadrature Measurements and Squeezing in Ultrastrong Cavity-QED

We study the squeezing of output quadratures of an electro-magnetic field escaping from a resonator coupled to a general quantum system with arbitrary interaction strengths. The generalized theoretical analysis of output squeezing proposed here is valid for all the interaction regimes of cavity-quantum electrodynamics: from the weak to the strong, ultrastrong, and deep coupling regimes. For coupling rates comparable or larger then the cavity resonance frequency, the standard input–output theory for optical cavities fails to calculate the variance of output field-quadratures and predicts a non-negligible amount of output squeezing, even if the system is in its ground state. Prediction of Long-Term Chemical Evolution of a Low-pH Cement Designed for Underground Radioactive Waste Repositories

Low-pH cements, also referred as low-alkalinity cements, are binders with a pore solution pH ≤ 11. They can be designed by replacing significant amounts of Portland cement (OPC) (≥40 %) by silica fume, which can be associated in some cases to low-CaO fly ash and/or ground granulated blast furnace slag to decrease the heat output during hydration by dilution of OPC and improve the mechanical strength of the final material. The chemical bonds in CuH, Cu2, NiH, and Ni2 studied with multiconfigurational second order perturbation theory

The performance of multiconfigurational second order perturbation theory has been analyzed for the description of the bonding in CuH, Cu2, NiH, and Ni2. Large basis sets based on atomic natural orbitals (ANOS) were employed. The effects of enlarging the active space and including the core‐valence correlation contributions have also been analyzed. Spectroscopic constants have been computed for the corresponding ground state. The Ni2 molecule has been found to have a 0+g ground state with a computed dissociation energy of 2.10 eV, exp. 2.09 eV, and a bond distance of 2.23 Å.
