Breakthrough Pain (BTP) in Opioid-Tolerant Cancer Patients: A Pan-European Open-Label Multicentre Study with Fentanyl Buccal Tablet (FBT)
2012
ABSTRACT BTP, a transitory exacerbation of pain that occurs on a background of otherwise controlled persistent pain, is a common problem in cancer patients. FBT is indicated for the treatment of BTP in adults with cancer already receiving maintenance opioid therapy for chronic cancer pain and should be titrated to an effective dose that provides adequate analgesia and minimises undesirable events. In this study, patients entered a screening period and were randomized during an open-label titration period to a starting FBT dose of 100 µg (group A) or 200 µg (group B) to identify the FBT effective dose and then treated in an open-label period (for 8 BTP episodes). Patients' inclusion followed…
Estimation of aerobic fitness among young men without exercise test
2015
Summary Study aim: to develop and estimate the validity of non-exercise methods to predict VO2max among young male conscripts entering military service in order to divide them into the different physical training groups. Material and methods: fifty males (age 19.7 ± 0.3 years) reported their physical activity before military service by IPAQ and SIVAQ questionnaires. Furthermore, Jackson’s non-exercise method was used to estimate VO2max. Body mass and height were measured, body mass index calculated and VO2max measured directly in a maximal treadmill test. Subjects were randomly divided into two groups. The results of the Group 1 (N = 25) were used to develop a regression equation to estimat…

Group-based intervention on attention and executive functions in the school context
2017
The objective of the study was to examine the effects of a group-based behavioural, cognitive and skills training intervention (Maltti) provided in schools for elementary school pupils with attention and executive function (EF) deficits. The treatment effects were identified by comparing an intervention group (n = 46) with a waitlist control group (n = 26). Specific effects of the intervention on behavioural deficits in attention and EF in a classroom setting as well as on academic skills were examined. Our analysis indicated that significant intervention effects could be found in the behavioural manifestation of attentional and executive skills in the classroom setting among children (n = …
Tablet as a digital tool in supervision of student teachers’ practical training
2016
Published version. Source at http://doi.org/10.18261/issn.1891-943x-2016-04-02. License CC BY-NC-SA 4.0. In the project “Tablets in Practicum Supervision”, the tablet has been tested as a tool for observation and supervision in Norwegian teacher education. The study incorporates 14 practicum supervision groups and focuses on how the use of tablets can influence the quality of the supervision and the coherence between teaching, observation and supervision. Throughout the supervision process, the groups have used tablets to produce and share texts, pictures and video recordings. The use of tablets has resulted in eight aspects of quality improvement: improved observations, stronger motivation…
P20Early membrane funnelling may occur from 16 weeks onwards and carries a worse prognosis
2000
Background Sonographic screening for cervical incompetence during pregnancy is currently a routine procedure. However, no consensus exists on the optimal gestational age to perform such screening. Method Serial transvaginal ultrasound examinations of the uterine cervix were routinely performed from 12 weeks onwards. The screening was considered positive when membrane funnelling was present or the cervical length was < 2 cm. Therapeutic measures included bed rest, antibiotics, tocolytic treatment and a modified McDonald's cervical suture (up to 25 weeks). Results Membrane funnelling was detected between 16 and 22 weeks (group A) in 9 women (31%); between 23 and 28 weeks (group B) in 11 women…
Abdominale, perineale und vaginale sonographische Diagnose der Zervikalinsuffizienz
2008
In patients with cervical incompetence, the diagnostic efficiency of abdominal, perineal and vaginal sonography was compared. 73 patients, who were divided into three groups, were examined: Group A (n = 50) control group, Group B (n = 11) normal pregnancies, Group C (n = 12) pregnancies with demonstrated cervical incompetence. According to our results, using vaginal sonography, only the incompetent pregnancies showed significant shortening of the cervical length. Characteristic scans were also obtained (membrane herniation) which were useful in diagnosis and control in the performance of cerclage.
Consensus guidelines for the detection of immunogenic cell death
2014
Apoptotic cells have long been considered as intrinsically tolerogenic or unable to elicit immune responses specific for dead cell-associated antigens. However, multiple stimuli can trigger a functionally peculiar type of apoptotic demise that does not go unnoticed by the adaptive arm of the immune system, which we named "immunogenic cell death" (ICD). ICD is preceded or accompanied by the emission of a series of immunostimulatory damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) in a precise spatiotemporal configuration. Several anticancer agents that have been successfully employed in the clinic for decades, including various chemotherapeutics and radiotherapy, can elicit ICD. Moreover, defect…
La dimensione pubblica del discorso d'odio
2022
2005
Purpose: To assess the benefit and the effect of intraarterial lipiodol application on histological analysis of patients suspected of having HCC. To determine whether lipiodol marking leads to a better biopsy result and how lipiodol or a transarterial chemoembolization influences the histological diagnosis. Materials and Methods: Two groups of patients were examined. Group A included 14 patients highly suspected of having an HCC which had previously been unsuccessfully biopsied. A transarterial embolization with lipiodol was performed in these patients to mark intrahepatic tumors which could not otherwise be defined in unenhanced CT. A biopsy was then repeated. Group B included 22 patients …
