Worse Health Status and Higher Incidence of Health Disorders in Rhesus Negative Subjects.
2015
Rhesus-positive and Rhesus-negative persons differ in the presence-absence of highly immunogenic RhD protein on the erythrocyte membrane. The biological function of the RhD molecule is unknown. Its structure suggests that the molecular complex with RhD protein transports NH3 or CO2 molecules across the erythrocyte cell membrane. Some data indicate that RhD positive and RhD negative subjects differ in their tolerance to certain biological factors, including, Toxoplasma infection, aging and fatique. Present cross sectional study performed on 3,130 subjects) showed that Rhesus negative subjects differed in many indices of their health status, including incidences of many disorders. Rhesus nega…
A proposal for an anonymous living organ donation in Germany.
2003
Abstract In Germany, living organ donation of paired and usually not regenerating organs is restricted by law to related individuals, as well as persons who ‘obviously entertain an especially intimate personal relationship'. When this law was adopted in 1997, the intention of the legislator was to guarantee the free will of the donor and to exclude any trade of organs. Since then the transplantation of cadaveric organs has not increased. Additional organs were donated from living donors. However, for a number of reasons only a limited array of transplantation centers use living organ donation as a supply facing a steadily increasing number of patients with chronic renal failure. Living orga…
Relevance of new recommendations on routine antenatal prevention of rhesus immunization: an appraisal based on a retrospective analysis of all cases …
2008
Abstract Objective To assess the potential impact of new guidelines recommending routine antenatal prophylaxis at 28 weeks of pregnancy on incidence, consequences and cost of rhesus immunization. Study design All rhesus immunizations of 224,500 ongoing pregnancies in two neighbouring administrative areas in France between 2000 and 2006 were enrolled in this retrospective study. To determine the aetiology of immunization and to specify when sensitization occurred, we searched sensitizing events between the last negative and the first positive red-cell antibody test results. Perinatal consequences and costing were also analyzed. Results From 138 rhesus negative women bearing anti-D antibodies…

Heterozygote Advantage Probably Maintains Rhesus Factor Blood Group Polymorphism: Ecological Regression Study
2016
Rhesus factor polymorphism has been an evolutionary enigma since its discovery in 1939. Carriers of the rarer allele should be eliminated by selection against Rhesus positive children born to Rhesus negative mothers. Here I used an ecologic regression study to test the hypothesis that Rhesus factor polymorphism is stabilized by heterozygote advantage. The study was performed in 65 countries for which the frequencies of RhD phenotypes and specific disease burden data were available. I performed multiple multivariate covariance analysis with five potential confounding variables: GDP, latitude (distance from the equator), humidity, medical care expenditure per capita and frequencies of smokers…
Untersuchungen zur Populationsgenetik von Island, insbesondere der Region Dalassla
1967
The authors report the results of a population genetic survey of the Dalasýsla region (West-Iceland). Our sample size includes n=193 male and female individuals of different age. These individuals are partly related. The following blood and serum groups were determined: ABO, MNS, Rh, P; Hp, Gc, Gm, InV, and Lp. In all these systems observed and expected phenotype frequencies are found to be in good agreement. The following gene frequencies turned out: p1A=.0888, p2A=.0456, qB=.0293, rO=.8363; pMS=.2256, pMs=.4474, pNS=.0540, pNs=.2730; cde=.4123, Cde=.0966, cDe=.0338, CDe=.2984, cDE=.1589; pP=.4833; Hp1=.5157, Hp2=.4843; Gc1=.7340, Gc2=.2660; Gm1=.1846, Gm1,2=.1444, Gm12=.6710. The frequenc…
Blood group does not appear to affect longevity a pilot study in centenarians from Western Sicily.
2011
Centenarians are the best example of extreme human longevity, and they represent a selected population in which the appearance of major age-related diseases, such as cancer, and cardiovascular diseases among others, has been consistently delayed or escaped. The study of the long-lived individual genetic profile has the purpose to possibly identify the genes and the allelic variations influencing extended life expectancy, hence considering them as biomarkers of age-related diseases onset and development. The present study shows no significant differences between allelic variations of ABO blood groups among a group of centenarians from Western Sicily.
Patient outcomes in two steroid-free regimens using tacrolimus monotherapy after daclizumab induction and tacrolimus with mycophenolate mofetil in li…
2008
Introduction. Long-term steroid administration may predispose liver transplant recipients to infectious and metabolic complication. Maintaining effective immunoprophylaxis while minimizing the negative consequences of steroid therapy could be a key factor in improving clinical outcomes.Methods. Six hundred two patients were randomized to receive tacrolimus (TAC) immunosuppression with a single-steroid bolus and two doses of daclizumab (DAC) or mycophenolate mofetil (MMF).Results. The incidence of biopsy-proven acute rejection was 19.7% in the TAC/DAC group and 16.2% in the TAC/ MMF group (ns). Three-month patient and graft survival were similar. Steroid use at month-3 was low at 5.5% in the…
Zur Frage sozialer Unterschiede in der Verteilung der ABO-, MN- und Rh-Faktoren
1963
Blood group and ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome.
2009
Blood group does not constitute a risk factor for the onset of the early form of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome in women "at risk."
