The research focus SoCuM serves the interdisciplinary research cooperation between the social and cultural sciences at the University of Mainz. SoCuM aims at the innovation potential created by a permanent network between the social and cultural sciences. For this purpose, the center facilitates the association of thematic working groups. Created in the 1950s to break down the barriers between disciplines and university traditions in the Humanities and Social Sciences (SHS), the Maisons des Sciences de l'Homme (Human Sciences Centres) have expanded to cover the entire country and to meet the challenges of research in SHS at the beginning of this century.
