Trehalose and trehalose-6-phosphate induce stomatal movements and interfere with ABA-induced stomatal closure in grapevine

2015

Aims: The effects of trehalose and trehalose-6-phosphate (T6P), among other sugars, were assessed on grapevine stomatal movements. Methods and results: Epidermal peels were used to assess the effects of sugars. Low concentrations of trehalose and T6P (1 μM) induced an osmotic-independent reduction of the stomatal aperture in light conditions. Furthermore, ABA-induced stomatal closure was reduced by sugar application in association with lower accumulation of reactive oxygen species in guard cells. Similar effects, although weaker, were observed in response to the disaccharides sucrose and maltose, but not in response to the monosaccharides fructose and glucose. Conclusion: This study clearly…

Reactive and organic halogen species in three different European coastal environments

2005

We present results of three field campaigns using active longpath DOAS (Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy) for the study of reactive halogen species (RHS) BrO, IO, OIO and I2. Two recent field campaigns took place in Spring 2002 in Dagebüll at the German North Sea Coast and in Spring 2003 in Lilia at the French Atlantic Coast of Brittany. In addition, data from a campaign in Mace Head, Ireland in 1998 was partly re-evaluated. During the recent field campaigns volatile halogenated organic compounds (VHOCs) were determined by a capillary gas chromatograph coupled with an electron capture detector and an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (GC/ECD-ICPMS) in air and wat…

Effects of halofenozide (RH-0345) on cuticular hydrocarbons of mosquito larvae of Culex pipiens

2011

Poster; Insect cuticular hydrocarbons are known to have a protection and a pheromonal role. Quantitative changes in the cuticular hydrocarbons of Diptera occur over time and were used in a preliminary attempt to age-grade of mosquitoes. Halofenozide (RH-0345) is an insect growth regulator belonging to the class of non-steroidal ecdysone agonists. In a previous study, halofenozide was found to be effective against larvae of Culex pipiens L. (Diptera: Culicidae) and exerted its toxicity primarily by the induction of a precocious lethal molting (Boudjelida et al., 2005). In this study, newly molted 4th instar larvae of C. pipiens were exposed to halofenozide (23% EC) for 24 h at LC50 (12.58 µg…

Effet de l'humidité sur la réponse à l'ammoniac de capteurs conductimétriques à base de matériaux moléculaires

2012

Many ammonia sensors are available but the consideration of the humidity effect is scarcely insured even by manufacturers. The aim of this thesis is to propose a conductimetric transducer capable tomeasure ammonia selectively, with enough accuracy for air quality control, in a variable humidity environment. To reach this goal, we used thin film resistors made of cobalt phthalocyanines as semiconductor. This study deals with thin films processing made by vacuum evaporation, solventcast and electrodeposition. Automated workbenches were developed to perform electrical measurements under argon and to study the response of sensors to dry or humid ammonia by meansof 1 min / 4 min-long exposure / …

High sensing potentialities of tetra-tert-butyl-metallophthalocyaninesbased acoustic microsensors for xylenes measurement in air at room temperature

2022

International audience; Xylenes, classified as Volatil Organic Compounds, is a very harmful pollutant for human health that can be absorbed into the body via all exposures routes: inhalation, ingestion, or dermal. As defined by the US Environmental Protection Agency, the occupational exposure limi-tes are set to 100 ppm while the guidelines in non-occupational context are fixed to 50 ppm. For the concentration measurements in the at-mosphere, authorities commonly used sampling methods with post-exposure chemical titration or chromatography. A strong interest remains on the development of low cost, low power consumption and easy implemented microsensors able to deliver real-time indicative m…

Breakthrough in the α-Perchlorination of Acyl Chlorides

2012

The preparation of -perchloroacyl chlorides, from reaction of the corresponding unfunctionalized acyl halides with chlorine, was efficiently achieved under base-catalysis, using a tetraalkylammonium chloride as catalyst. The process is solvent-free and the procedure is easy, inexpensive, and suitable for scale-up.

Neuromagnetic studies of attention in children and youth: Role of exercise and impact on cognitive competence

2023

Tarkkaavuus on monella tavoin yhteydessä elimistömme sisäisiin ja ulkoisiin tekijöihin aivojen kehityksen aikana, jolloin aivot muovautuvat voimakkaasti. Tässä väitöskirjassa tutkitaan tarkkaavuutta kahdesta eri näkökulmasta: millä tavoin oma toimintamme vaikuttaa tarkkaavuuteen ja toisaalta miten tarkkaavuus moduloi muita kognitiivisia toimintoja. Tarkemmin sanottuna väitöskirjassa tutkitaan fyysisen aktiivisuuden ja aerobisen kunnon yhteyksiä ennakoivan tarkkaavuuden ja modaliteettien välisen tarkkaavuuden suuntaamisen aivoperustaan 13-17-vuotiailla nuorilla. Lisäksi väitöskirjassa tutkitaan millä tavoin tarkkaavuus vaikuttaa puheäänteiden ja ei-kielellisten äänteiden käsittelyyn aivoissa…

N-Alkyl ammonium resorcinarene salts: multivalent halogen-bonded deep-cavity cavitands

2015

N-Cyclohexyl ammonium resorcinarene halides, stabilized by an intricate array of hydrogen bonds in a cavitand-like assembly, form multivalent halogen-bonded deep-cavity cavitands with perfluoroiodobenzenes. As observed from the macromolar to infinite concentration range through crystal growth and single crystal X-ray analyses, four 1,4-diiodotetrafluorobenzenes form moderate halogen bonds with the bromides of the N-cyclohexyl ammonium resorcinarene bromides leading to a deep-cavity cavitand-like structure. In this assembly, the N-cyclohexyl ammonium resorcinarene bromide also acts as a guest and sits in the upper cavity of the assembly interacting with the 1,4-diiodotetrafluorobenzene throu…
