Several studies have shown that HLA-B8,DR3 positive subjects may display T cell dysfunctions. Recently, a soluble form of the receptor for IL-2 (sIL-2R) has been demonstrated in human sera and in vitro-stimulated culture supernatant from human T lymphocytes. In the present paper we report sIL-2R serum levels and sIL-2R production from peripheral blood mononuclear cells in HLA-B8,DR3 positive subjects. We found that HLA-B8,DR3 positive subjects have the highest values of serum sIL-2R, but comparing the values of these subjects with those of negative ones no significant difference was observed. No primary association between LMP2 polymorphisms and extraspinal manifestations in spondyloarthropathies

OBJECTIVE—To investigate the potential role of the HLA-linked LMP2 (low molecular weight protein) gene polymorphisms in conjunction with DR4 and DR7 on extraspinal disease manifestations in HLA-B27 positive patients with spondyloarthropathy.
METHODS—172 patients with spondyloarthropathy, 46 healthy, HLA-B27 positive blood donors, and 99 unrelated controls were typed for HLA-class I and II antigens. LMP2 alleles were determined by polymerase chain reaction and subsequent restriction enzyme digestion.

Complete congenital heart block in autoimmune hepatitis (SLA-positive).

Complete congenital heart block is a serious complication of neonatal lupus erythematosus which most often occurs in children of mothers suffering from connective tissue disease. We report the occurrence of complete congenital heart block associated with autoimmune hepatitis (SLA-positive). A 32-year-old woman was treated for more than 10 years for autoimmune hepatitis (SLA-/ANA-positive) and remained in clinical remission under immunosuppressive therapy. She showed an MHC-haplotype typical for autoimmune hepatitis (A1, B8, DR3). Analysis of T-Lymphocyte Subsets After Phytohemagglutinin Stimulation in Normal and Type 1 Diabetic Mothers and Their Infants

Our aim was to investigate the immunological status of diabetic pregnancy, which is an overlap of diabetic immunity abnormalities and the immunological modifications normally occurring during pregnancy. METHOD: We studied lymphocyte subpopulations and lymphokine production, after 96 h of phytohemagglutinin (PHA) stimulation, from normal and Type I diabetic pregnant women at delivery time and from the respective cord blood. Morphea after silicone gel breast implantation for cosmetic reasons in an HLA-B8,DR3-positive woman

We describe an HLA-B8, DR3-positive patient with localized morphea after silicone gel breast implantation for cosmetic reasons. We believe that this case suggests that a genetic background, i.e. HLA-B8, DR3 haplotype, is involved in the autoimmune response to silicone.

Objective. Susceptibility to rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is closely associated with HLA–DRB1 alleles encoding a shared epitope (SE) in positions 70–74 of the HLA–DR chain. The mechanistic basis for this association is unknown. Budesonide induces remission more effectively than prednisone in a controlled trial of patients with autoimmune hepatitis.

Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is a chronic liver disease associated with cirrhosis and liver failure. Corticosteroid therapy induces long-term remission but has many side effects. Tumor-reactive CD4+ T cells have been isolated from tumor patients, and their specifity but not T-cell receptor (TCR) repertoire has been analyzed.
