Efficient parallel computations of flows of arbitrary fluids for all regimes of Reynolds, Mach and Grashof numbers

This paper presents a unified numerical method able to address a wide class of fluid flow problems of engineering interest. Arbitrary fluids are treated specifying totally arbitrary equations of state, either in analytical form or through look‐up tables. The most general system of the unsteady Navier–Stokes equations is integrated with a coupled implicit preconditioned method. The method can stand infinite CFL number and shows the efficiency of a quasi‐Newton method independent of the multi‐block partitioning on parallel machines. Vortex layers of small thickness

We consider a 2D vorticity configuration where vorticity is highly concentrated around a curve and exponentially decaying away from it: the intensity of the vorticity is $O(1/epsilon)$ on the curve while it decays on an $O(epsilon)$ distance from the curve itself. We prove that, if the initial datum is of vortex-layer type, Euler solutions preserve this structure for a time which does not depend on $epsilon$. Moreover the motion of the center of the layer is well approximated by the Birkhoff-Rott equation.
Instability of the melt flow in VGF growth with a traveling magnetic field

The linear instability of a thermally stratified melt flow in the VGF configuration driven by a traveling magnetic field (TMF) is considered numerically and experimentally. The dependency of the instability threshold on the governing parameters is found for several cuts through the parameter space covering a wide range of possible applications. In a first approximation the linear instability occurs when the dimensionless TMF forcing parameter reaches the magnitude of the Grashof number. Variable exponent p(x)-Kirchhoff type problem with convection

Abstract We study a nonlinear p ( x ) -Kirchhoff type problem with Dirichlet boundary condition, in the case of a reaction term depending also on the gradient (convection). Using a topological approach based on the Galerkin method, we discuss the existence of two notions of solutions: strong generalized solution and weak solution. Strengthening the bound on the Kirchhoff type term (positivity condition), we establish existence of weak solution, this time using the theory of operators of monotone type.

This article, differentiating between factual and normative values, investigates the links between national culture and entrepreneurial activity in 24 countries based on 154 observations. We test hypotheses on the relationship between national culture—measured by Global Leadership and Organizational Behavior Effectiveness (GLOBE)—and nascent entrepreneurship as represented by Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM). Culture-level dimensions of social axioms and their correlates across 41 cultures

Leung and colleagues have revealed a five-dimensional structure of social axioms across individuals from five cultural groups. The present research was designed to reveal the culture level factor structure of social axioms and its correlates across 41 nations. An ecological factor analysis on the 60 items of the Social Axioms Survey extracted two factors: Dynamic Externality correlates with value measures tapping collectivism, hierarchy, and conservatism and with national indices indicative of lower social development. The cultural dimension of Spanish universities has changed markedly, especially since the restoration of democracy in Spain in the late 1970s. This study reflects on the terminology and the historical evolution of Spanish universities, comparing their development within a broader world context. It also analyses the present state of affairs through two complementary pieces of field work. The paper concludes by examining the issues and hurdles that until recently were the third dimension of university life after teaching and research.
