Joprojām nav skaids kā labāk kontrolēt uroģenitālās hlamidiozes un gonokoku infekcijas transmisiju un novērst šo slimību komplikācijas, jo nepastāv vienotas vispārpieņemtas skrīninga programmas. Uroģenitālās hlamidiozes un gonorejas skrīninga programmas lietderīgums, tai skaitā izmaksu ziņā, ir diskutabls. Taču šo slimību diagnostika joprojām atrodas suboptimālā līmenī, tādēļ tās epidemioloģiskie dati nav visai ticami. Population density and childhood leukaemia: results of the EUROCLUS study

The EUROCLUS study assembled incidence data for 13,551 cases of childhood leukaemia (CL) diagnosed between 1980 and 1989 in 17 countries (or regions of countries). These were referenced by location at diagnosis to small census areas of which there were 25,723 in the study area. Population counts, surface area and, hence, population density were available for all these small areas. Previous analyses have shown limited extra-Poisson variation (EPV) of case counts within small areas; this is most pronounced in areas of intermediate population density (150-499 persons/km2). Decapod crustaceans exhibit considerable variation in fertilisation strategies, ranging from pervasive single paternity to the near-ubiquitous presence of multiple paternity, and such knowledge of mating systems and behaviour are required for the informed management of commercially-exploited marine fisheries. Fast MATLAB assembly of FEM matrices in 2D and 3D: Edge elements

We propose an effective and flexible way to assemble finite element stiffness and mass matrices in MATLAB. We apply this for problems discretized by edge finite elements. Typical edge finite elements are Raviart-Thomas elements used in discretizations of H(div) spaces and Nedelec elements in discretizations of H(curl) spaces. We explain vectorization ideas and comment on a freely available MATLAB code which is fast and scalable with respect to time.
Pathogenetic and diagnostic significance of microRNA deregulation in peripheral T-cell lymphoma not otherwise specified

Peripheral T-cell lymphomas not otherwise specified (PTCLs/NOS) are rare and aggressive tumours whose molecular pathogenesis and diagnosis are still challenging. The microRNA (miRNA) profile of 23 PTCLs/NOS was generated and compared with that of normal T-lymphocytes (CD4+, CD8+, naive, activated). The differentially expressed miRNA signature was compared with the gene expression profile (GEP) of the same neoplasms. The obtained gene patterns were tested in an independent cohort of PTCLs/NOS. Epidemiological features suggest a link between Hodgkin's disease (HD) and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection1. Indeed, EBV genome and expression of latent antigens can be found in Reed-Sternberg cells. In the majority of cases HD in HIV patients seems to be EBV-associated. We report on a 51-year-old HIV-infected patient in whom EBV-positive HD of mixed cellularity rapidly developed within one month after cessation of treatment with intravenous foscarnet.

Granulomatous mycosis fungoides, a rare subtype of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma

Granulomatous mycosis fungoides (GMF) is an unusual histologic subtype of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma.1 The diagnosis of GMF is usually established after observation of a granulomatous inflammatory reaction associated with a malignant lymphoid infiltrate. Epidermotropism, a clue to diagnosis in classical mycosis fungoides (MF) may be absent in about 47% of cases of GMF.2 In some instances, the granulomatous component may be intense and obscures the lymphomatous component of the infiltrate.1 There are no distinctive clinical patterns associated with GMF.1, 3
