Microbial Dynamics between Yeasts and Acetic Acid Bacteria in Kombucha: Impacts on the Chemical Composition of the Beverage.

2020

Kombucha is a traditional low-alcoholic beverage made from sugared tea and transformed by a complex microbial consortium including yeasts and acetic acid bacteria (AAB). To study the microbial interactions and their impact on the chemical composition of the beverage, an experimental design with nine couples associating one yeast strain and one AAB strain isolated from original black tea kombucha was set up. Three yeast strains belonging to the genera Brettanomyces, Hanseniaspora, and Saccharomyces and three strains of Acetobacter and Komagataeibacter species were chosen. Monocultures in sugared tea were analyzed to determine their individual microbial behaviors. Then, cultivation of the ori…

C,N-chelated organotin(IV) trifluoromethanesulfonates: Synthesis, characterization and preliminary studies of its catalytic activity in the direct sy…

2012

Abstract C,N-chelated tri- and diorganotin(IV) halides react with 1 or 2 mol equiv of silver trifluoromethanesulfonate (triflate, AgOTf, OTf = OSO2CF3−) to give corresponding C,N-chelated organotin(IV) triflates. The triorganotin(IV) triflates of general formula LCNR2SnOTf (R = n-Bu (1), Ph (2)) are presumably more stable towards hydrolysis than the diorganotin(IV) triflates LCNRSn(OTf)2 (R = n-Bu (3), Ph (4)). All prepared organotin(IV) triflates bearing the LCN ligand (where LCN is 2-(N,N-dimethylaminomethyl)phenyl-) were characterized by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. In addition, the structure of 3 was determined by the X-ray diffraction analysis. The catalytic ac…

Human Hsp60 with Its Mitochondrial Import Signal Occurs in Solution as Heptamers and Tetradecamers Remarkably Stable over a Wide Range of Concentrati…

2014

It has been established that Hsp60 can accumulate in the cytosol in various pathological conditions, including cancer and chronic inflammatory diseases. Part or all of the cytosolic Hsp60 could be naive, namely, bear the mitochondrial import signal (MIS), but neither the structure nor the in solution oligomeric organization of this cytosolic molecule has still been elucidated. Here we present a detailed study of the structure and self-organization of naive cytosolic Hsp60 in solution. Results were obtained by different biophysical methods (light and X ray scattering, single molecule spectroscopy and hydrodynamics) that all together allowed us to assay a wide range of concentrations of Hsp60…

Structure of a polysaccharide from the lipopolysaccharide of Vibrio vulnificus CECT4602 containing 2-acetamido-2,3,6-trideoxy-3-[(S)- and (R)-3-hydro…

2008

A polysaccharide was isolated by GPC after mild acid treatment of the lipopolysaccharide of Vibrio vulnificus CECT4602 and found to contain L-Rha, D-GlcpNAc and 2-acetamido-2,3,6-trideoxy-3-(3-hydroxybutanoylamino)-L-mannose (L-RhaNAc3NHb). GLC analysis of the trifluoroacetylated (S)-2-octyl esters derived by full acid hydrolysis of the polysaccharide showed that approximately 80% of the 3-hydroxybutanoic acid has the S configuration and approximately 20% the R configuration. The following structure of the polysaccharide was established by (1)H and (13)C NMR spectroscopies, including 2D ROESY and (1)H/(13)C HMBC experiments: [carbohydrate sequence see in text].

The degradation of intracrystalline mollusc shell proteins: a proteomics study of Spondylus gaederopus.

2021

Mollusc shells represent excellent systems for the preservation and retrieval of genuine biomolecules from archaeological or palaeontological samples. As a consequence, the post-mortem breakdown of intracrystalline mollusc shell proteins has been extensively investigated, particularly with regard to its potential use as a "molecular clock" for geochronological applications. But despite seventy years of ancient protein research, the fundamental aspects of diagenesis-induced changes to protein structures and sequences remain elusive. In this study we investigate the degradation of intracrystalline proteins by performing artificial degradation experiments on the shell of the thorny oyster, Spo…

Stereochemistry of terpene derivatives. Part 3: Hydrolytic kinetic resolution as a convenient approach to chiral aminohydroxyiminocaranes with local …

2002

Abstract We have developed a stereoselective hydrolytic kinetic resolution process for diastereoisomeric mixtures of epoxyiminocarene intermediates in the presence of ( R , R )-(−)-(salen)Co(III)OAc catalyst, this was applied as the first step in the synthesis of novel chiral aminohydroxyiminocarane derivatives with local anaesthetic activity. The absolute configuration of the product was confirmed by X-ray crystallography.

Squaric acid mediated chemoselective PEGylation of proteins: reactivity of single-step-activated α-amino poly(ethylene glycol)s.

2012

The covalent attachment of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) to therapeutically active proteins (PEGylation) has become an important method to deal with the pharmacological difficulties of these polypeptides, such as short body-residence times and immunogenicity. However, the derivatives of PEG used for PEGylation lack further functional groups that would allow the addition of targeting or labeling moieties. Squaric acid diethyl ester was used for the chemoselective single-step activation of poly(ethylene glycol)s into the respective ester amides. The resultant selective protein-reactive poly(ethylene glycol)s were investigated with respect to their selectivity towards amino acid residues in bovi…

Two new biologically active triterpene saponins from Acanthophyllum squarrosum.

2000

Two novel triterpenoid saponins (1 and 2) have been isolated from the roots of Acanthophyllum squarrosum. The structures were established mainly by a combination of 2D NMR techniques as 3-O-beta-D-galactopyranosyl-(1-->2)-[beta-D-xylopyranosyl-(1-->3)]-be ta-D-glucuronopyranosylgypsogenin-28-O-beta-D-xylopyranosyl-(1-->3 )-b eta-D-xylopyranosyl-(1-->4)-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1-->4)-[alpha-L- rhamnopyranosyl-(1-->3)]-beta-D-fucopyranoside (1) and 3-O-beta-D-glucopyranosylgypsogenin-28-O-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-( 1-- >2)-alpha-L-arabinopyranosyl-(1-->2)-[beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1-->6 )]- beta-D-glucopyranoside (2).
