Berry curvature for magnetoelastic waves
2020
The Berry curvature for magnons in ferromagnetic films gives rise to new phenomena such as thermal Hall effect and a shift of a magnon wave packet at the reflection at the edge of the magnetic film. In this paper, we calculate the Berry curvature of magnetoelastic waves in ferromagnets. In order to calculate the Berry curvature, we first formulate the eigenvalue equation into a Hermitian form from the dynamical equation of motion. We find that the Berry curvature of the magnetoelastic waves shows a peak at the crossing point of the dispersions of magnons and elastic waves, and its peak value is dependent on the hybridization gap at the crossing point. In addition, the behavior of the Berry …
Resonant rayleigh scattering in semiconductor structures
1995
A detailed study of the relative role played by localized and/or propagating intermediate excitonic states in, resonant Rayleigh scattering (RRS) is presented for a large set of GaAs quantum well (QW) and bulk structures. We show that the two kinds of states contribute to RRS through different mechanisms. We concluded that RRS occurs via localized states in QW heterostructures, very likely due to localization by the interface roughness, while bulk, crystals turn out to be better candidates for RRS via propagating states.
Electronic correlation effects and the Coulomb gap at finite temperature.
2000
We have investigated the effect of the long-range Coulomb interaction on the one-particle excitation spectrum of n-type Germanium, using tunneling spectroscopy on mechanically controllable break junctions. The tunnel conductance was measured as a function of energy and temperature. At low temperatures, the spectra reveal a minimum at zero bias voltage due to the Coulomb gap. In the temperature range above 1 K the Coulomb gap is filled by thermal excitations. This behavior is reflected in the temperature dependence of the variable-range hopping resitivity measured on the same samples: Up to a few degrees Kelvin the Efros-Shkovskii ln$R \propto T^{-1/2}$ law is obeyed, whereas at higher tempe…
Magnetic interaction between coupled quantum dots
2000
We study the magnetic coupling in artificial molecules composed of two and four laterally coupled quantum dots. The electronic ground-state configurations of such systems are determined by applying current spin density functional theory which allows to include effects of magnetic fields. While the ground-state of a two-dot molecule with strong enough inter-dot coupling tends to be antiferromagnetic with respect to the spins of the single dot components, we find that a square lattice of four dots has a ferromagnetic ground state.
Stability and dynamics of in-plane skyrmions in collinear ferromagnets
2019
We study the emergence and dynamics of in-plane skyrmions in collinear ferromagnetic heterostructures. We present a minimal energy model for this class of magnetic textures, determine the crystal symmetries compatible with it and propose material candidates, based on symmetries only, for the observation of these topological solitons. We calculate exact solutions of the energy model for in-plane skyrmions in the absence of dipolar interactions at critical coupling, the latter defined by the relations $H = K$ and $D = \sqrt{AK}$ for the strength of the external magnetic field and the Dzyaloshinskii coupling constant, respectively, with $K$ and $A$ being the anisotropy constant and the exchang…
Entanglement-induced electron coherence in a mesoscopic ring with two magnetic impurities
2006
We investigate the Aharonov-Bohm (AB) interference pattern in the electron transmission through a mesoscopic ring in which two identical non-interacting magnetic impurities are embedded. Adopting a quantum waveguide theory, we derive the exact transmission probability amplitudes and study the influence of maximally entangled states of the impurity spins on the electron transmittivity interference pattern. For suitable electron wave vectors, we show that the amplitude of AB oscillations in the absence of impurities is in fact not reduced within a wide range of the electron-impurity coupling constant when the maximally entangled singlet state is prepared. Such state is thus able to inhibit th…

Microwave induced co-tunneling in single electron tunneling transistors
2002
Abstract The influence of microwaves on the co-tunneling in single electron tunneling transistors has been investigated as function of frequency and power in the temperature range from 150 to 500 mK. All 20 low frequency connections and the RF line were filtered, and the whole cryostat was suspended on rubber bellows. Cross-talk was minimized by using individual coaxial lines between the sample and the room temperature electronics. The co-tunneling experiments were performed at zero DC bias current by measuring the voltage response to a very small amplitude 2 Hz current modulation with the gate voltage fixed at maximum Coulomb blockade. With the microwave signal applied to one side of the t…
Chiral Magnetic Domain Wall and Skyrmion Memory Devices
2021
In the chapter, we have reviewed the fundamental physics for designing magnetic domain wall memories, especially domain wall racetrack memories. An overview of how the racetrack has been functionally improved and the fundamental physics behind the operating mechanism has developed is shown. Material wise, the design of the racetrack has changed from using in-plane magnetic materials to out-of-plane magnetic materials. The process of changing the material design resulted in new physics such as the spin-orbit torques (SOTs) and the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) which resulted in domain wall motion with higher efficiency and stability. The SOT is the main mechanism in moving the doma…
