Mutagenicity of N-substituted phenanthrene 9,10-imines in Salmonella typhimurium and Chinese hamster V79 cells.

We previously showed that some (nonsubstituted) aziridines derived from polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (arene imines) elicit various mutagenic and genotoxic effects in bacteria and mammalian cells and that these arene imines are active at much lower concentrations than the corresponding epoxide analogues. In the present study, N-substituted derivatives of phenanthrene 9,10-imine were investigated. All 10 derivatives studied showed direct mutagenicity in Salmonella typhimurium TA100. Some of the compounds additionally exhibited weak effects in the strains TA98 and TA1537. Sie ist von einer Palissade und möglicherweise einem Graben oder einer zweiten Palisade umgeben und umgrenzt ein ca. 1,5 ha großes Areal. Sie wurde durch den Bau der Rollbahn eines Militärflughafens, bei dem der Innenbereich teilweise abgetragen wurde, stark beschädigt. Das Fundmaterial gestattet keine genauere Datierung. High-pressure xenon gas is an attractive detection medium for a variety of applications in fundamental and applied physics. In this paper we study the ionization and scintillation detection properties of xenon gas at 10 bar pressure. For this purpose, we use a source of alpha particles in the NEXT-DEMO time projection chamber, the large scale prototype of the NEXT-100 neutrinoless double beta decay experiment, in three different drift electric field configurations. Lack of antiandrogenic effects of topical bifonazole on sebaceous glands and hairs in the hamster flank organ.

The activity of topically applied bifonazole was evaluated in vivo in the three androgen-dependent structures of the hamster flank organ, i.e. the pigmented spot, sebaceous glands and hairs. Topical bifonazole in our experience did not demonstrate any morphological effect on sebaceous gland and hair even when applied in the dosage of 3 mg/cm<sup>2</sup>/day. On the basis of our morphometric results we can conclude that topically applied bifonazole does not interfere with cutaneous androgen metabolic transformations in the pilosebaceous unit of the flank organ.

Topical canrenoic acid. Quantification of the antiandrogenic activity in the hamster flank organ

: The topical antiandrogenic activity of potassium canrenoate (CAK), compared with that of spironolactone (SP), was assayed in vivo in female golden Syrian hamsters whose flank organs were stimulated by subcutaneous administration of testosterone propionate. Sebaceous glands and hair were measured by a computerized image analyzer. Pigmented spots, sebaceous gland areas, and the diameter of hairs of the treated flank organs were smaller in the groups that received CAK (1·6 mg/day) and SP (0·4 mg/day). Periodic solutions for a class of second-order Hamiltonian systems

Multiplicity results for an eigenvalue second-order Hamiltonian system are investigated. Using suitable critical points arguments, the existence of an exactly determined open interval of positive eigenvalues for which the system admits at least three distinct periodic solutions is established. Moreover, when the energy functional related to the Hamiltonian system is not coercive, an existence result of two distinct periodic solutions is given.© 2005 Texas State University - San Marcos.

The hypothesis of the preferred X-chromosome loss in elder human females was reevaluated in the golden hamster: early castration of females proved that the increase of aneuploid cells is correlated with the loss of the ovaries. But here, and in old females, aneuploidy consisted of random loss of excess of chromosomes, in no case an X-chromosome.
