Rigorous Multimode Equivalent Network Representation of Multilayer Planar Circuits

2018

The objective of this paper is to extend the use of the Multimode Equivalent Network formulation, originally developed to analyze waveguide junctions, to the analysis of planar circuits that include arbitrary rectangular printed, zero thickness metallizations together with internal and external ports in the transverse plane. The theoretical derivations lead to an accurate and computationally efficient tool for the analysis of boxed, multilayer microwave printed circuits. In addition to theory, the tool developed is used here to analyze two practical examples: a dual-bandpass and a 4-pole bandpass boxed microstrip filters. Good agreement with respect to commercial software tools and measurem…

Continuous Monitoring of Parasitic Elements in Boost Converter Circuit

2021

The given paper explains the necessity of condition monitoring for DC/DC boost converter circuit. Further, an analytical model of circuit parasitic estimation is presented based on measured quantities in the circuit. The implementation of continuous estimation of circuit parasitic elements is analytically explained and verified by simulations and experimental results. Obtained results are acceptable for condition monitoring.

Theory of Heterogeneous Circuits With Stochastic Memristive Devices

2022

We introduce an approach based on the Chapman-Kolmogorov equation to model heterogeneous stochastic circuits, namely, the circuits combining binary or multi-state stochastic memristive devices and continuum reactive components (capacitors and/or inductors). Such circuits are described in terms of occupation probabilities of memristive states that are functions of reactive variables. As an illustrative example, the series circuit of a binary memristor and capacitor is considered in detail. Some analytical solutions are found. Our work offers a novel analytical/numerical tool for modeling complex stochastic networks, which may find a broad range of applications.

Improving topological mapping on NoCs

2010

Networks-on-Chip (NoCs) have been proposed as an efficient solution to the complex communications on System-on-chip (SoCs). The design flow of network-on-chip (NoCs) include several key issues, and one of them is the decision of where cores have to be topologically mapped. This thesis proposes a new approach to the topological mapping strategy for NoCs. Concretely, we propose a new topological mapping technique for regular and irregular NoC platforms and its application for optimizing application specific NoC based on distributed and source routing.

Numerical Simulation of Thermal Effects in Coupled Optoelectronic Device-circuit Systems

2008

The control of thermal effects becomes more and more important in modern semiconductor circuits like in the simplified CMOS transceiver representation described by U. Feldmann in the above article Numerical simulation of multiscale models for radio frequency circuits in the time domain. The standard approach for modeling integrated circuits is to replace the semiconductor devices by equivalent circuits consisting of basic elements and resulting in so-called compact models. Parasitic thermal effects, however, require a very large number of basic elements and a careful adjustment of the resulting large number of parameters in order to achieve the needed accuracy.

Skyrmion pinning energetics in thin film systems

2022

AbstractA key issue for skyrmion dynamics and devices are pinning effects present in real systems. While posing a challenge for the realization of conventional skyrmionics devices, exploiting pinning effects can enable non-conventional computing approaches if the details of the pinning in real samples are quantified and understood. We demonstrate that using thermal skyrmion dynamics, we can characterize the pinning of a sample and we ascertain the spatially resolved energy landscape. To understand the mechanism of the pinning, we probe the strong skyrmion size and shape dependence of the pinning. Magnetic microscopy imaging demonstrates that in contrast to findings in previous investigation…

Electromagnetic Full-Wave Simulation of Partial Discharge Detection in High Voltage AC Cables

2019

Partial discharge (PD) activity in the insulation system of an electrical equipment can determine the failure of the whole apparatus. PD sensors are widely used in high-voltage electrical systems as the main elements of a detecting system oriented to real time monitoring. Recently, non-invasive sensors have been proposed in industrial applications for cable and other sensitive electrical parts: they are based both on capacitive and on the electromagnetic radiating coupling. In order to assess the real performance of a new sensor produced by a high voltage AC cables manufacturer, the paper proposes electromagnetic fullwave simulation results.

A DC and small signal AC model for organic thin film transistors including contact effects and non quasi static regime

2017

Abstract We present a compact model for the DC and small signal AC analysis of Organic Thin Film Transistors (OTFTs). The DC part of the model assumes that the electrical current injected in the OTFT is limited by the presence of a metal/organic semiconductor junction that, at source, acts as a reverse biased Schottky junction. By including this junction, modeled as a reverse biased gated diode at source, the DC model is able to reproduce the scaling of the electrical characteristics even for short channel devices. The small signal AC part of the model uses a transmission line approach in order to compute the impedances of the channel and parasitic regions of the device. The overlap capacit…
