Hypogonadism in β-thalassemic adolescents: A characteristic pituitary-gonadal impairment. The ineffectiveness of long-term iron chelation therapy

The pituitary-gonadal function was studied in 18 beta-thalassemic female adolescents, 8 with delayed puberty and 10 with primary amenorrhea,treated with repeated transfusions and long-term iron chelation therapy by subcutaneous infusion. A 100 micrograms gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) test, a double-bolus GnRH test after estradiol administration in non-responders, a 400 micrograms thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) test and a 'high dose' human menopausal gonadotropin (hMG) test were performed. Genotoxicity of dental materials.

This study was performed to characterize the (possible) DNA-damaging properties of dental materials and to identify specific compounds that contribute to this genotoxicity. For screening, three tests that assay for different aspects of genotoxicity (i) the bacterial umu-test; (ii) the eucaryotic DNA synthesis inhibition test; and (iii) the in vivo alkaline filter elution technique were chosen. The synthesis of N,S-heterodisubstituted 1-(2'-pyridyl)-2-SR-1,2-closo-C2B10H10 compounds (R = Et, 2; R = (i)Pr, 3) has been accomplished starting from 1-(2'-pyridyl)-l,2-closo-C2B10H11 (1), and their partial deboronation reaction leading to the structurally chiral [7-(2'-pyridyl)-8-SR-7,8-nido-C2B9H10]-derivatives (R = Et, [4]-; R = (i)Pr, [5]-) has been studied. Organotin(IV) Complexes of Aromatic Acid Hydrazides: Preparation and Spectroscopic Studies

Abstract The ability of aromatic acid hydrazides, RCONHNH, to act as bidentate chelating agents towards diorganotin(IV) dichlorides has been investigated. The structure of the complexes were deduced from IR, NMR and Mossbauer spectroscopic techniques in combination with analytical data. The R2SnCI2.L complexes have octahedral geometry where the tin atom is chelated with one ligand (via carbonyl oxygen and hydrazinic nitrogen atoms), two chlorine atoms are in equatorial positions while the R groups are in the axial positions.

Abstract Reaction of various neutral LXH bidentate ligands (2-aminobenzoic acid, acetylacetone, dibenzoylmethan and 2-aminobenzenethiol) with [Cp′2TaH2]+, obtained in situ from Cp′2TaH3 treated with triphenylmethan cation, affords after dihydrogen elimination the corresponding cationic species [Cp′2Ta(H)(LX)]+ in BF4 or PF6 salts. DNA-binding of nickel(II), copper(II) and zinc(II) complexes: structure-affinity relationships

Abstract Nickel(II), copper(II) and zinc(II) complexes with the same ligands normally display analogous coordination geometry and binding mode toward DNA. However, although qualitatively alike in structure and properties, different DNA-binding ability has often been observed. This review surveys the most recent examples of binding of the three metal ions complexed with monodentate and chelating bidentate to tetradentate ligands to DNA. An attempt has also been made to rationalize the observed trend in the values of the intrinsic DNA-binding constant, Kb, in terms of structural and chemical features.

Abstract The organotin(IV) compounds Me2SnCl2(dbtp)(1), Me2SnCl2(dbtp)2 (2), Et2SnCl2(dbtp) (3), Et2SnCl2(dbtp)2 (4), Et2SnCl2(dptp) (5), nBu2SnCl2(dbtp)2 (6), nBu2SnCl2(dptp) (7), Ph2SnCl2(dbtp) (8), Ph2SnCl2(EtOH)2(dptp)2 (9), where dbtp = 5,7-di-tert-butyl-1,2,4-triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine and dptp = 5,7-diphenyl-1,2,4-triazolo [1,5-a]pyrimidine, have been tested by MTT for their cytotoxic activity on three tumor cell lines, HepG2 (human hepatocellular carcinoma), HeLa (human cervix adenocarcinoma) and MCF-7 (human breast cancer). Eight R2Sn(IV)-D-aldonate complexes [(R = Me, Bu; D-aldonate = D-galactonate2− (Galn), D-Gluconate2− (Glun), D-Gulonate2− (Guln), D-Ribonate2− (Ribn)], five of which are new derivatives, have been synthesized and structurally characterized both in solid and solution state by IR, 119Sn Mossbauer and 1H, 13C, 119Sn NMR spectroscopies, showing that ligands act as dianonic chelating agents.
