Physical modelling of Czochralski crystal growth in horizontal magnetic field

Abstract This study addresses experimentally the heat transfer, the temperature azimuthal non-uniformity and the onset of oscillations in a low temperature physical model of a medium-sized Czochralski crystal growth process with a strong horizontal magnetic field (HMF). It is observed that under certain conditions the integral heat flux may decrease with increasing magnetic field strength at the same time as the flow velocity increases. The azimuthal non-uniformity of the temperature field in the melt near the crystal model rim is only little influenced by its rotation rate outside of a narrow range where the centrifugal force balances the buoyant one. CtsR is the master regulator of stress response gene expression in Oenococcus oeni.

ABSTRACT Although many stress response genes have been characterized in Oenococcus oeni , little is known about the regulation of stress response in this malolactic bacterium. The expression of eubacterial stress genes is controlled both positively and negatively at the transcriptional level. Overall, negative regulation of heat shock genes appears to be more widespread among gram-positive bacteria. We recently identified an ortholog of the ctsR gene in O. oeni . In Bacillus subtilis , CtsR negatively regulates expression of the clp genes, which belong to the class III family of heat shock genes. Thermomechanical effects in the flow of a fluid in porous media

This paper deals with analysis, by methods of extended thermodynamics, of the thermomechanical effects which arise in the flow of a weakly viscous fluid in a porous medium. Under the hypothesis that the fluid fills all the interstices among the powder and that the size of the powder grains and of the interstices is much lower than a suitable characteristic length, linearized field equations are written, which include, in a natural way, terms which take into account the Dufour, Soret, and virtual mass effects. As a limiting case when the evolution time of the heat flux goes to infinite and no entropy flux is carried, the flow of liquid helium II in a porous medium is obtained.

Since the installation of an ITER-like wall, the JET programme has focused on the consolidation of ITER design choices and the preparation for ITER operation, with a specific emphasis given to the bulk tungsten melt experiment, which has been crucial for the final decision on the material choice for the day-one tungsten divertor in ITER. Integrated scenarios have been progressed with the re-establishment of long-pulse, high-confinement H-modes by optimizing the magnetic configuration and the use of ICRH to avoid tungsten impurity accumulation. We study multiobjective optimization problems arising from chemical process simulation. The interactive multiobjective optimization method NIMBUS®, developed at the University of Jyvaskyla, is combined with the BALAS® process simulator, developed at the VTT Technical Research Center of Finland, in order to provide a new interactive tool for designing chemical processes. A single bout of endurance exercise induces αB-crystallin (CRYAB) modulation in cardiac muscle as it happens in oxidative skeletal muscle fibers

CRYAB is a small Heat Shock Protein, expressed in various tissues such as skeletal and cardiac muscles, activated as phosphorylated CRYAB (pCRYAB) and involved in several pathophysiological processes. Structural relaxation in a molten salt probed by time-dependent dc conductivity measurements

Abstract Time-dependent dc conductivity was measured after cooling steps of about 2 K in the glass transformation range of 2Ca(NO 3 ) 2 -3RbNO 3 . The shape and time scale of the structural relaxation function was thus monitored for times 60 s t 6 s. The time scale could be compared with results from scanning calorimetry measurements and good agreement was found. From the heat capacity data and from the solid state conductivity the expected liquid state conductivity relaxation time was calculated using several models.
