Aggregate Behavior and Microdata

2004

Abstract It is shown how one can effectively use microdata in modelling the change over time in an aggregate (e.g. mean consumption expenditure) of a large and heterogeneous population. The starting point of our aggregation analysis is a specification of explanatory variables on the micro-level. Typically, some of these explanatory variables are observable and others are unobservable. Based on certain hypotheses on the evolution over time of the joint distributions across the population of these explanatory variables we derive a decomposition of the change in the aggregate which allows a partial analysis: to isolate and to quantify the effect of a change in the observable explanatory variab…

Mild Hydrocracking of Vacuum Gasoil over NiMo-Beta Zeolite Catalysts: The Role of the Location of the NiMo Phases and the Crystallite Size of the Zeo…

1998

Abstract Mild hydrocracking composite catalysts based on NiMo/γ-Al2O3-Beta zeolite have been prepared and the influence of the location of the NiMo phases has been studied. A good hydrocracking activity and the highest HDS conversion was found during the hydrocracking of a vacuum gasoil with the composite catalyst where the NiMo is located on the alumina component and then mixed with the zeolite in a proportion of 1 : 1 by weight. The crystal size of the beta zeolite had a significative influence on the catalytic behaviour, being better the smaller the crystallite size is. The small crystallite beta-based catalyst displayed a higher hydrocracking activity than conventional USY and silica-al…

The MOF-driven synthesis of supported palladium clusters with catalytic activity for carbene-mediated chemistry

2016

The development of catalysts able to assist industrially important chemical processes is a topic of high importance. In view of the catalytic capabilities of small metal clusters, research efforts are being focused on the synthesis of novel catalysts bearing such active sites. Here we report a heterogeneous catalyst consisting of Pd4 clusters with mixed-valence 0/+1 oxidation states, stabilized and homogeneously organized within the walls of a metal-organic framework (MOF). The resulting solid catalyst outperforms state-of-the-art metal catalysts in carbene-mediated reactions of diazoacetates, with high yields (>90%) and turnover numbers (up to 100,000). In addition, the MOF-supported Pd4 c…

Organic synthesis of high added value molecules with MOF catalysts

2020

Recent examples of organic synthesis of fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals in confined spaces of MOFs are highlighted and compared with silica-based ordered porous solids, such as zeolites or mesoporous (organo)silica. These heterogeneous catalysts offer the possibility of stabilizing the desired transition states and/or intermediates during organic transformations of functional groups and (C-C/C-N) bond forming steps towards the desired functional high added value molecular scaffolds. A short introduction on zeolites, mesoporous silica and metal-organic frameworks is followed by relevant applications in which confined active sites in the pores promote single or multi-step organic synthesis…

Heterogeneous Dinuclear Rhodium(II) Hydroformylation Catalysts—Performance Evaluation and Silsesquioxane-Based Chemical Modeling

2001

Supported, air stable, and reusable hydroformylation catalysts have been prepared by immobilizing dinuclear rhodium(II) complexes bearing ortho-metalated arylphosphane ligands on amorphous silica and mesoporous MCM-41 supports by phosphane tethers. The oligosilsesquioxane model complex of the catalytic site 1 has been prepared analogously and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis.

HC-SCR of NOx over Ag/alumina: a combination of heterogeneous and homogeneous radical reactions?

2005

Matrix isolation combined with EPR and FT-IR technique at low temperature has been used to study the gas phase species involved in HC-SCR over a highly active Ag/alumina catalyst. A combination of heterogeneous and homogeneous (radical) reactions is proposed to take place over a Ag/alumina catalyst during HC-SCR. Radicals of low molecular weight were trapped in a growing argon matrix behind the Ag/alumina catalyst. In the same matrix, cyanogen isocyanate was detected and is suggested to be a key intermediate for the formation of amines and ammonia via the hydrolysis of isocyanate species.

SBA-15/POSS-Imidazolium Hybrid as Catalytic Nanoreactor

2019

Supported imidazolium modified polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) on SBA-15 have been used as platform for Pd(II) species. The so-obtained material was firstly characterized by means of TGA, solid state NMR, TEM, XPS, SAXS, porosimetry and ICP-OES and it was successfully tested as pre-catalyst in C−C cross couplings, namely Suzuki-Miyaura and Heck reactions. In both cases, the solid proved to be highly efficient and easily recoverable from the reaction mixture. The recyclability was verified for up to seven cycles without showing any activity decrease. Interestingly, only Pd(II) was detected in the reused catalyst in the Heck reaction. Therefore, the versatility of the material w…

Transfer of Water and Active Molecules at the Interfaces in Complex Food Systems: Theoretical and Practical Aspects

2011

Abstract During processing, storage and consumption, mass transfer of various molecules (water, gases, flavour compounds or other solutes) occur between the different phases in complex food products, and/or also between the complex food and its surroundings. These mass transfers can lead to physical and/or chemical changes and thus induce food quality modifications. The objective of this presentation is to better understand the behaviour of small molecules at the interfaces, especially in model heterogeneous food systems. Different techniques have been developed to characterize their properties and their impact on the mass transfers. Particularly, techniques such as rotative diffusion cell …

Catalysis with Doped Sol-Gel Silicates

2011

Silicates doped with catalytic species have only been slowly adopted by the fine chemicals and pharmaceutical industries, in spite of their remarkable and unique properties such as pronounced physical and chemical stability; high (enantio)selective activity and ease of materials production and application. This is now changing thanks to stricter safety regulations and to concomitant success of the first commercial catalysts. In this account we tell the story of these materials and identify some deficiencies in the innovation process that may serve as lesson in guiding the future management of innovation in these relevant industries.

The Influence of Alkali Metal Ions in the Chemisorption of CO and CO2on Supported Palladium Catalysts: A Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopic Stu…

1996

Two series of palladium-based catalysts were compared on the basis of the adsorption of CO and CO2, monitored by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The first series is represented by a silica-supported palladium catalyst and by some catalysts derived from it by addition of different amounts of sodium ion, 0 ≤ R ≤ 25.6, whereRis the atomic ratio Na/Pd. The second series consists of palladium catalysts supported on “model” and natural pumices. The model pumices, obtained by sol-gel techniques, are silico-aluminates containing variable amounts of sodium so that the corresponding Pd catalysts have anRvalue in the range 0 ≤ R ≤ 6.1. In the Pd/natural pumice catalysts, changes of the atomic…
