DESIGN THINKING MODELS IN DESIGN RESEARCH AND EDUCATION
2016
Design thinking has become a paradigm that is considered to be useful in solving many problems in different areas: both in development of design projects and outside of traditional design practice. It raises the question - is design thinking understood as a universal methodology in all cases? How it is interpreted in design education? The analysis of theoretical and design related literature indicates different basic and contextual challenges facing design today: increasing scale of social, economic and industrial borders; complexity of environment and systems; requirements in all levels. As specialists and researchers in the field of design have concluded, here are multiple disconnects b…
Two discourses: researchers and policy-making in higher education
1995
The theme of this article focuses on how policy discourse and research discourse meet in contract research in higher education. The interplay of these discourses has consequences for researchers who have to balance conflicting demands, which we view as links between research and policy cycles. Two evaluation studies on the introduction and effects of new policy instruments are discussed, focusing on the interaction between policy needs, and research design. The examples are taken from policies in the development towards increasing self-regulation in higher education, of which Finland and the Netherlands are interesting examples in the European context.
Main Findings and Discussion
2016
This chapter ‘connects the dots’ between the outcomes of the CINHEKS study and relates these to contemporary higher education research practice and policy. This conclusion summarizes our main theoretical and conceptual findings, central empirical results and methodological advances in a way that illuminates the key issues and questions brought into view by the CINHEKS study, as a whole. Our findings are critically contextualized in terms of general challenges in higher education studies, which borrow far more than we generate, especially in terms of theory, conceptual problematization, methodology and methods. Theoretically, the analytical synthesis of network knowledge society is highlight…
Review of methodologies for evaluating university social responsability
2015
The article presents a review of methodologies for the assessment of the so-called University Social Responsibility from the analysis of indicator systems in the area of higher education in Ibero-America. A publication-based research was conducted, compiling progress made between the years 2006-2013. A total of two doctoral theses that presented evaluation systems in students; two models proposed by universities in Peru and Spain; and the papers of two university networks that designed a University Social Responsibility conceptual development and indicator systems for its assessment were identified. The article points out that despite the spectrum of conceptual proposals produced during the…
E-book Readers in Higher Education: Student Reading Preferences and Other Data from Surveys at the University of Agder
2013
Published version of an article from the journal Sage Open: http://sgo.sagepub.com/. Also available from the publisher: http://dx.doi.org/10.1177/2158244013486493 Open Access This paper reports on a research project at the University of Agder that has studied the use of e-readers as a tool for academic study. E-readers (Kindle DX and iPad) were loaded with texts from required reading lists in five courses with 94 participating students. Initially 87 students responded to the invitation to participate in a survey, but eventually 13 of these submissions had to be removed, as the degree of completion was not sufficient. The final response rate achieved was 79%. Students were in general positiv…
The Returns to Education in Rwanda
2005
05077; International audience; Based on data from the 1999–2001 Household Living Conditions Survey conducted by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, we estimate wage equations for employees in Rwanda, treating the choice of employment sector as an endogenous process and making separate estimates for workers in the modern and traditional sectors of the economy. The results show that returns to education increase with the level of education, contrary to the pattern typically reported in the literature and that the returns to higher education is particularly high in Rwanda. A noteworthy feature in the results is that the returns to education are quite different across sectors of empl…
Including revision as a competence of undergraduate students in translation.
2022

Use the artificial Intelligent in order to Define Skills in Higher Education
2012
In order to increase the level of learning and the rate of success of students the educational policy tries to find a way to increase simultaneously the skills and the knowledge of students especially in higher education. Then we interested to know how the other science can help us to be close to this goal. The artificial intelligence (AI) is a branch of science that has a very wide domain of using. It can help us in various sciences like electronic, animation, medicine, banking, industries, exploitation, robotic, security and even spea…
