Der Feinbau der stiftfhrenden Sinnesorgane im Pedicellus der Florfliege Chrysopa Leach (Chrysopidae, Planipennia)

1969

Histochemical and electron microscopic analysis of spiculogenesis in the demosponge Suberites domuncula.

2006

The skeleton of demosponges is built of spicules consisting of biosilica. Using the primmorph system from Suberites domuncula, we demonstrate that silicatein, the biosilica-synthesizing enzyme, and silicase, the catabolic enzyme, are colocalized at the surface of growing spicules as well as in the axial filament located in the axial canal. It is assumed that these two enzymes are responsible for the deposition of biosilica. In search of additional potential structural molecules that might guide the mineralization process during spiculogenesis to species-specific spicules, electron microscopic studies with antibodies against galectin and silicatein were performed. These studies showed that …

Influence of Extracellular Matrix on the Lipogenesis of Cultured White Fat Cells.

1998

Collagenase digests from subcutaneous fat tissue of new born rats were cultured on different types of collagen gel containing 50% type I collagen, on fibronectin (Fn) or on laminin (Lm). On day 6, 17% of cells on a plastic substratum differentiated and had multilocular or unilocular cytoplasmic lipid droplets (CLDs). Cells on each type of collagen and on Lm had more CLDs than those on a plastic substratum. The extent of lipogenesis showed the following decreasing order: cells on Lm (80%), on type IV+I collagen (70%), on type I collagen (52%), on type III+I collagen (36%), on type II+I collagen (32%). On day 14, most cells on Lm became unilocular fat cells. Cells on Fn showed delipidation an…

3D interactive model of lumbar spinal structures of anesthetic interest

2014

A 3D model of lumbar structures of anesthetic interest was reconstructed from human magnetic resonance (MR) images and embedded in a Portable Document Format (PDF) file, which can be opened by freely available software and used offline. The MR images were analyzed using a specific 3D software platform for biomedical data. Models generated from manually delimited volumes of interest and selected MR images were exported to Virtual Reality Modeling Language format and were presented in a PDF document containing JavaScript-based functions. The 3D file and the corresponding instructions and license files can be downloaded freely at http://diposit.ub.edu/dspace/handle/2445/44844?locale=en. The 3D…

Obsolescence and intervention: on synthetic-biological entities.

2014

Oftentimes, topics that might fall outside of science’s remit seem to end up becoming a part of it, sooner or later. This appears to be the case of synthetic biology, a new biological science (although some maintain that it is a form of engineering, or treat it as such; Endy, 2005), which seems to have become essential to the understanding of living beings and their extreme manipulation. I believe it to be a new form of biology. In truth, synthetic biology has a long history and, conceptually speaking, may well have formed part of the interests and research efforts of our illustrious predecessors throughout the first half of the twentieth century and even earlier. In any event, and broadly …

Moral Disengagement in Youth Athletes: A Narrative Review

2022

The sports environment can be considered as a context characterized by interactions typical of social groups, where children have the chance to learn good values. Positive and negative behaviours in sports, also called prosocial and antisocial behaviours, have been studied according to a moral perspective, as has doping behaviour, taking into consideration the concept of moral disengagement. Moral disengagement in children has been associated with maladaptive behaviours later in life, even though it should disappear with growth. Concerning the sports environment, previous reviews on the topic have extensively illustrated the role of moral variables in sport and their relation to antisocial …
