Salvatore a Naro
2020
G. Vio…
THE CHALLENGES OF SUSTAINABLE HISTORICAL CENTERS: THE CASE OF ROSETTE, EGYPT
2011
Historical centers of many Egyptian cities managed to survive as living cities in spite of physical decline and economic depression. Their fabric carries out the spiritual and cultural messages that communicate with their present citizens. The heritage of these historic city centers are not only Material character, but much more. Generally, the conservation of historic centers is fundamentally different from conservation of single monument. While a single monument can be kept on a chosen state of evolution, the historic centers cannot be preserved in particular state “with exception of the small areas conserved for tourist purposes”. The historic centers, as living cities must meet the vary…
La città di Alphabet. Architettura per prosumers.
2021
2020
The rediscovery of the cultural value of the project and of the new aesthetic of temporality are two issues among these emerging in the city in times of crisis in Italy which are measured through the process of active involvement of inhabitants, associations and actors institutional. The research proposed concrete explorations of the transformation of the street into a public space through an interdisciplinary prospective of participatory practices and interlocutions. It is in this context that research is interested in the cultural and material value of urban space as a projection of social relations towards a new aesthetic of temporality which aims to reverse the gaze of waiting spaces th…
RESTORING THE CITY CENTER, PLANNING AND POLICIES
2011
The Intervention on urban fabric and open spaces in the historical city. The article describes the restoration process of Palermo’s historical centre. The process has been discontinuous and fragmented, so that presently, extremely degraded urban areas still coexist with highly desirable areas characterized by first-rate restoration. Palermo’s experience with urban revitalization and development of an impoverished historical city centre demonstrates the need for urban planning that is systematically supported by effective public policies and that never loses sight of preserving the soul of the city.
2018
The proposed contribution is focused on the graphic analysis of an eighteenth-century perspective view portraying one of the most ancient squares of the City of Palermo (piazza Garraffello). It is an engraving print made by F. Cichè in 1711 on commission of the Guild of Silversmiths: the square is completely described with the fountain (still existing) in the foreground, and with the corporate lodges of foreign nations in the background (these two buildings nowadays have disappeared). In the picture is also visible a temporary triumphal arch with canopy erected by the same guild who had commissioned the view: this is the object of main perspectival interest. The study of the perspective use…
The hellenistic Théatron of Morgantina: History and Restoration
2011
Idee e proposte dai piani.
2011
Palermo was a town still ravaged by war - as Argan reported and he stated that: >. In fact the outcome in terms of damages caused by the war was huge, as entire monuments and considerable urban environments had disappeared into large cavities. In particular, the Teatro Marittimo area, between the Foro Italico and the Cala, became one of the largest sites of ruins created by the war in Italy. With the reconstruction plan approved in 1947 certain indiscriminately destructive principles reappeared in planning policies, such as the implicit request for a new parallel road upstream the 17th century Street called via Maqueda the third road crossing the old town centre, which had been already draw…
