The good-will to operate in the old town privileging the history and the maintenance of historic buildings, is manifest in this study on the Vittorio Emanuele monumental street, the foundation axis of Palermo, and it’s architectural degraded and disfigured fronts. This article revolves around three key issues. First, over the last 30 years, the traditional approach to history teaching as memorization of facts and chains of events has been changing. Currently, the Finnish national core curriculum fixes the focus of history teaching on students’ critical and historical thinking skills. However, the curriculum leaves a lot of maneuvering scope for schools and individual teachers, but teachers seemingly still emphasize content over skills with too little focus on historical thinking skills. In questo articolo la memoria storica viene riscoperta come spazio educativo per le nuove generazioni. Per contrastare la manomissione del passato provocata dalla globalizzazione, viene proposta l’attivazione di un laboratorio di didattica della storia che abbia come obiettivo la costruzione condivisa tra i giovani di un futuro migliore. In this paper, historical memory is rediscovered as an educational space for the new generations. Against the today’s falsification of history, it is proposed the activation of a laboratory of historical education where young people learn the shared construction of a better future.

International audience; One of the most interesting figures of Roman history with respect to the construction of historical memory is L. Licinius Lucullus. Although remarkable for his military success and appreciated for his generosity towards the inhabitants of the provinces subject to the Romans, which dedicated to him some inscriptions that are monumenta in his memory, his tendency to excess and extravagance was significantly recorded in certain literary sources producing a distinctly chiaroscuro portrait.
