Translation history constitutes a huge field of research where methods, theories, research questions and topics vary widely. One important question here is who we write history to (who is our addressee) and what kind of an impact the perceived audience has on the ways of writing history. In the case of academic audiences, an audience often is also a partner in research collaboration. However, there are other audiences outside the academia as well. In an excellent methodological essay, Rick Altman (1996) has argued that the notion that cinema has a stable identity across time is, at best, an illusion. Specifically, its identity has become diffuse at moments when it has entered into circuits of transformative exchange and competition with other forms of leisure activity. Los contemporáneos de la expulsión, al menos los que tuvieron ocasión de expresarse por escrito, adoptaron una posición que podemos llamar moriscófoba. Consideraban que la población morisca valenciana era económicamente poco relevante, dado el carácter minifundista y atrasado de la agricultura que practicaban. Vicente Ripollés Pérez (1867-1943) fue unos de los maestros de capilla españoles más interesantes entre los siglos XIX y XX; destacó como compositor, director, musicólogo y por su liderazgo en el movimiento cecilianista. Llegó a ser nombrado canónigo de la Catedral de Valencia y fue maestro de capilla en las catedrales de Tortosa, Sevilla y el Real Colegio de Corpus Christi en Valencia. A esta última institución legó su archivo y biblioteca que han sido catalogados recientemente y que contienen más de ochocientos do-cumentos. This article analyses the importance of social theory for historiography. It deals specifically with pre- modern historiography and the uses that it has for social theory. Through an example from the history of conflict resolution in the central Middle Ages, it will be shown how social theory plays a primordial role in the engagement of certain problems that cannot be tackled by the sole use of the tools which tradition- ally characterise history and its so-called 'auxiliary disciplines'.

The Empire of Nicaea was a successor of the Byzantium shattered in 1204. In the newly established state marine traditions of Byzantines, remain alive. The best testimony to this, are the evidence contained in the chronicle of Georgios Akropolites, devoted to activities of the rulers of Nicaea, aimed to build their own naval forces.
