This study utilises a person‐oriented view to examine what kind of motivational orientations employees have, and how they contribute to their well‐being. Two separate studies were carried out. A total of 286 white‐collar workers employed in a public sector educational institution in a middle‐sized town in Central Finland participated in the first study (116 men and 170 women). All the participants filled in Little's Personal Project Analysis and burnout inventory, a work ability index, Beck's Depression and Diener's Satisfaction with life scales. Compensating Need Satisfaction across Life Boundaries: A Daily Diary Study

Self-determination theory suggests that satisfaction of an individual's basic psychological needs (for competence, autonomy, and relatedness) is a key for well-being. This has gained empirical support in multiple life domains, but little is known about the way that need satisfaction interacts between work and home. Drawing from ideas of work–home compensation, we expect that the benefits of need satisfaction in the home domain are reduced when needs are satisfied in the work domain. Affirmer qu’on peut juger d’une société en visitant ses prisons, c’est affirmer que la pénalité manifeste la nature du lien politique. Ainsi, l’exclusion que réalise l’emprisonnement pratiqué actuellement en France traduit concrètement, par sa passivité et sa quête de neutralité, l’imaginaire du contrat social, attestant que l’abolition de la peine de mort n’a pas encore fait l’objet d’une réception pleine et entière. Incarcérer autrement, incarcérer pour inclure en condamnant non à une durée mais à une mise en action, participerait donc à régénérer la manière dont nous envisageons ce qui nous unit.

Abstract This chapter approaches the question of biopolitics in ancient political thought looking not at specific political techniques but at notions of the final aim of the political community. It argues that the “happiness” (eudaimonia, beatitudo) that constitutes the greatest human good in the tradition from Aristotle to Thomas Aquinas is not a “biopolitical” ideal, but rather a metabiopolitical one, consisting in a contemplative activity situated above and beyond the biological and the political. This paper focuses on the search of interpretative communities across and amongst the Nordics. First the idea of shared ‘Nordic mode of reception’ between the three Nordic countries which participated to the World Hobbit Research project is presented and investigated, after which the focus is shifted towards the examination of the possibility of the ‘country-specific profiles’. Finally it is questioned if any other background variable than nationality could explain the finding which emerge when examining the data at the level of nationalities. peerReviewed
