The most recent historiography has confirmed the importance of ecclesiastical careers within the ranks of the Catholic Church (bishops and cardinals) as well as religious orders (abbots and priors) and military orders (primarily the Order of Malta) for early modern family strategies. They were one of the main paths followed by cadet members of the nobility to build, strengthen and even enable the survival of the social prestige and political influence of their families. ABSTRACT: The 12 th century saw the culmination of a massive reform movement within the Church, intended both to reinforce the figures of the Pope and bishops and to standardise the Western European liturgy, based on the one utilized at that time in the papal chapel. Antibiotic-Resistant Gram Negative Bacilli in Meals Delivered at a General Hospital, Italy

This study aimed at detecting the presence of antibiotic-resistant Gram-negatives in samples of meals delivered at the University General Hospital of Palermo, Italy. Antibiotic resistant Gram negatives were isolated in July—September 2007 ffrom cold dishes and food contact surfaces and utensils. Bacterial strains were submitted to susceptibility test and subtyped by random amplification of polymorphic DNA (RAPD). Forty-six of 55 (83.6%) food samples and 14 of 17 (82.3%) environmental swabs were culture positive for Gram negative bacilli resistant to at least one group of antibacterial drugs. The authors report the molecular characterization of Candida parapsilosis isolates recovered from the blood and venous central catheter tips of patients admitted to different care units of the Polyclinic Hospital, University of Messina, Italy. Among 97 presumed C. parapsilosis isolates examined, 94 were identified as C. parapsilosis sensu stricto and the remaining 3 isolates were found to belong to the cryptic species Candida orthopsilosis which was recovered only from blood cultures of neonates (<30 days old) born prematurely. In this study, using multilocus microsatellite analysis, we report the genetic characterization of 27 Candida parapsilosis isolates recovered in two different periods of time (2007-2009 and 2011-2012) from infants hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care unit of a hospital in Messina, Italy. The results revealed the persistence and dominance of a particular infectious genotype among NICU patients and highlight the power of the used microsatellite markers in clarifying epidemiologic associations, detect micro-evolutionary variations and facilitating the recognition of outbreaks. © 2012 Elsevier B.V.

In the current (post-) pandemic context and through the lens of a southern European perspective the purpose of this article is to critically reflect about the role of culture as possible vehicle of urban and community regeneration. In particular we will focus on the activities of the no profit organization «Laboratorio Zen Insieme» in ZEN2 one of the last large popular and peripheral neighborhoods built in Palermo at the end of 80s in order to explore and understand how cultural practices work as agent of urban and social transformation capable of addressing emerging issues especially in the pandemic scenario we are experiencing. Thecasestudy has been conducted through analysis of documents participative observations (Honer and Hitzler 2015) and qualitative in-depth interviews with key actors involved in the conception organization and management of the activities carried out by Laboratorio Zen Insieme with representatives of local institutions and non-formal conversations with participants of the workshops heldin the neighborhood. The experience we narrate finds that cultural practices have re-conceptualized their design and functions as strategies of urban and community regeneration and at the same time have contributed to answer to emergent issues in developing proximity and local based strategies facing up to problems inherent civil rights educationalpoverty socio-spatial justice and have changed the image and identity of urban places they inhabit.In this sense the research provides a framework for development of strategies and legitimization for cultural practices and a point of discussionabouttheirrolein urban development.Although all cities in the world have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic its impacts on the territories yet to be understood are unevenly distributed revealing extremely varied imbalances depending on the places.
