Keyhole limpet haemocyanin: negative staining in the presence of trehalose

1995

Abstract Samples of unpurified and purified haemocyanin from the giant keyhole limpet Megathura crenulata have been studied by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) using mixtures of trehalose with the negative stains, uranyl acetate and ammonium molybdate. Trehalose is a known protein preservative during air and freeze drying, UV irradiation and high temperatures, and therefore offers the possibility of protecting proteins during the drying of negatively-stained specimens and their subsequent electron microscopical study. Evidence is presented that trehalose possesses satisfactory stability within the electron beam during conventional room temperature, negative-staining studies. The combi…

2019

Today ancient Noto is a medieval archaeological site, yet to be discovered. After the 1693 earthquake, the ancient city of Noto, in the middle of the Baroque period, was rebuilt in another place and the ancient city was abandoned. The first excavation campaign in ancient Noto by Paolo Orsi dates back to the period between 1894 and 1896. In the following years there will be other excavation campaigns, in which other architectural and sculptural relics will be found. They are today part of the collection of the Civic Museum. The contribution focuses on the study of the piazza Maggiore (Main Square) site, the center of the ancient city and on the surrounding buildings. After analyzing the limi…

IL CANTIERE DEL COMPLESSO CARMELITANO DELL’ANNUNZIATA A TRAPANI NELLA SECONDA METÀ DEL CINQUECENTO

2016

Funerary traditions and death worship in the church of the Borgia in Gandía: interpretations from archaeology

2008

The study of funerary customs in antiquity has enjoyed a long tradition in archaeology. By contrast, there has been little research of such a kind from the late Middle Ages onwards. This paper attempts to demonstrate what archaeology can contribute to the knowledge of funerary and death-worship practices, by analysing practices undertaken between the thirteenth and eighteenth century in the collegiate church and cemetery apud ecclesiam of Gandia in Valencia.

Oedenburg.

Archiwum Kurii Diecezjalnej w Gliwicach. Stan obecny i zadania na przyszłość

2016

The article describes the issue with which the new diocese of Gliwice is contending. Since the very beginning of administration of the diocesan curia an archive has been functioning, which collects, stores and, if possible, makes gathered sources available. The division of archival documents keeps the office division worked out by Mr Józef Bonczol, the first worker of the Archive. Documents produced by departments and offices of curia are still the matter of competence of these departments, passing with time to the Archive as historic documentation. Since 2007 archive records gathered in parish archives have been taken care of the Archive. There is a growing interest in collections of paris…

Preliminary investigation into temporal variation of volcanic ash adherent water-soluble components at Stromboli volcano during 2004-2009 eruptive ac…

2009

A change in the chemical compositions of volcanic gases is one of the noticeable phenomena that frequently occurs prior to an eruption. Tephra in plumes can absorb and thereby rapidly deposit volatiles including sulphur, halogen and metal species. These may then be leached (e.g. by rainfall), potentially releasing heavy loads into soils and water bodies. Their analysis is a suitable supplement for remote monitoring of volcanic gases from inaccessible volcanoes. Freshly fallen ashes of the eruptive activity from 2004 to 2009 at Stromboli volcano were sampled, leached and analysed for major and trace elements. This study is aimed at determining the causes of the compositional variations of th…

Four Remarkable Additions to the Biodiversity of Chinese Mosses

2022

Four species of moss genus Schistidium are reported for the first time from China. All of them have been found in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. Ecological and distributional details of the newly recorded species are provided and their local distribution is mapped. Photographs of the species are attached. Checklist of Schistidium species and identifying key are added. Considering the present records, Schistidium consists of 15 species in China.
