Application of sol-gel and laser evaporation methods to obtain thin gas sensitive films

New type resistive/capacitative gas sensitive structures were obtained by using a specially prepared substrate- glass, covered by thin conducting In/sub 2/O/sub 3/ layer, cutted into a comb teeth-type electrodes by help of laser beam. Such laser processed gap in the layer of conducting material was a prototype of excellent humidity sensor, especially at high values of relative humidity (RH). Different additional coatings onto a laser processed gap were examined for humidity sensing. Sol-gel, vacuum thermal evaporation and laser evaporation methods were used to obtain a thin layers of different materials.

Bias and humidity effects on the ammonia sensing of perylene derivative/lutetium bisphthalocyanine MSDI heterojunctions

International audience; In this paper, we prepared and studied sensors based on Molecular Semiconductor-Doped Insulator (MSDI) heterojunctions. These original devices are built with two stacked layers of molecular materials and exhibit very specific electrical and sensing properties. We studied the properties of a MSDI composed of the perylenetetracarboxylic dianhydride, PTCDA, or the fluorinated perylenebisimine derivative, C4F7-PTCDI, as n-type molecular material sublayers, and LuPc2 as a p-type semiconductor top layer. Radial and peripheral clines in northern polymorphic populations of Philaenus spumarius

Geographic variability in the colour polymorphism of Philaenus spumarius (Homoptera) was investigated in the northern parts of Finland, Norway and Sweden. The investigation was directed mainly at peripheral populations south of the Baltic—Arctic divide. The colour phenotypes were found to differ in their “north tolerance”. The phenotypes typ (pt/pt) and lat (pt/pt) were the most, and the phenotype tri (pt/pT) the least tolerant to marginal conditions. Differences in “north tolerance” between the phenotypes cause radial clines to be present in allele frequencies. The radial clines may be caused by the combined effect of several different factors. Effects of ambient temperature, humidity, and other meteorological variables on hospital admissions for angina pectoris.

Background: Seasonal peaks in cardiovascular disease incidence have been widely reported, suggesting weather has a role. Design The aim of our study was to determine the influence of climatic variables on angina pectoris hospital admissions. Methods: We correlated the daily number of angina cases admitted to a western Sicilian hospital over a period of 12 years and local weather conditions (temperature, humidity, wind force and direction, precipitation, sunny hours and atmospheric pressure) on a day-to-day basis. Mould/dampness exposure at home is associated with respiratory disorders in Italian children and adolescents: the SIDRIA-2 Study

Aims: To report on the relation between home mould and/or dampness exposure and respiratory disorders in a large sample of children and adolescents in Italy, accounting for age at time of exposure. Methods: 20 016 children (mean age 7 years) and 13 266 adolescents (mean age 13 years) completed questionnaires on indoor exposures and respiratory symptoms/diseases. Humidity-Induced Grain Boundaries in MAPbI3 Perovskite Films

Methylammonium lead halide perovskites (MAPbI3) are very sensitive to humid environments. We performed in situ scanning force microscopy and in situ X-ray diffraction measurements on MAPbI3 films to track changes in the film morphology and crystal structure upon repeated exposure to a high relative humidity environment (80%). We found that the appearance of monohydrate (MAPbI3·H2O) Bragg reflections coincided with the appearance of additional grain boundaries. Prolonging the exposure time to humidity induced more grain boundaries and steps in the MAPbI3 films, and the peak intensities of the monohydrate MAPbI3·H2O increased. Sensing properties of assembled Bi2S3nanowire arrays

Bismuth sulfide (Bi2S3) nanowires were grown in porous aluminium oxide template and a selective chemical etching was applied to transfer the nanowires to a solution. Well aligned nanowire arrays were assembled on pre-patterned silicon substrates employing dielectrophoresis. Electron beam lithography was used to connect aligned individual nanowires to the common macroelectrode. Relative Humidity Dependent Resistance Switching of Bi2S3Nanowires

Electrical properties of Bi2S3nanowires grown using a single source precursor in anodic aluminum oxide templates are sensitive to the relative humidity in an inert gas environment. Dynamic sensing dependency is obtained and shows presence of spontaneous resistance switching effect between low and high relative humidity states. Employing the thermionic field emission theory, heights of Schottky barriers are estimated from the current-voltage characteristics and in relation to the humidity response. The change of Schottky barrier height is explained by local changes in physically adsorbed water molecules on the surface of the nanowire.
