Interleukin-2 immediate type hypersensitivity?
2008
Two patients with metastatic malignant melanoma developed immediate type hypersensitivity-like symptoms while being treated with recombinant interleukin-(IL-)2 immunotherapy. Both patients showed positive skin prick tests to IL-2, enhanced basophil degranulation in vitro and responded to anti-histamines, but laboratory investigations suggested an IgE-independent, pseudoallergic mast cell degranulation against IL-2.

Icone gay: tra processi di normalizzazione e di resistenza. Ricostruire la semantica degli hashtag
2018
The mediatization of emotions emerges as an affordance of social media, the study of which involves paying attention to digital practices and the formation of the sense of public affection, of connected audiences expressing their participation through expressions of sentiment. This happens both for the great events and for the daily demonstrations of support or of its negation. Here we choose to analyze the tweets in which the fans express their opinions on the participation in the reality shows of their “icons”: Vladimir Luxuria and Cristiano Malgioglio. To reconstruct the hashtag semantics we use: the NodeXL software for network analysis and Iramuteq for the extraction of lexical worlds.
Effects of asymmetric dimethylarginine on renal arteries in portal hypertension and cirrhosis
2016
AIM. To evaluate the effects of asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) in renal arteries from portal hypertensive and cirrhotic rats. METHODS. Rat renal arteries from Sham (n = 15), pre-hepatic portal hypertension (PPVL; n = 15) and bile duct ligation and excision-induced cirrhosis (BDL; n = 15) were precontracted with norepinephrine, and additional contractions were induced with ADMA (10-6-10-3 mol/L), an endogenous inhibitor of nitric oxide (NO) synthase. Concentration-response curves to acetylcholine (1 × 10-9-3 × 10-6 mol/L) were determined in precontracted renal artery segments with norepinephrine in the absence and in the presence of ADMA. Kidneys were collected to determine the protein e…
Lack of correlation between serum anti-HBcore detectability and hepatocellular carcinoma in patients with HCV-related cirrhosis
2008
BACKGROUND: While the likelihood of developing hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in patients coinfected with both HBV and HCV is increased, the role of previous exposure to HBV as a risk factor associated with tumor occurrence in subjects with HCV-related cirrhosis has not been fully investigated. AIM: To assess whether serum anti-HBc positivity, as a marker of previous HBV exposure, is associated with HCC development in HCV-related positive, hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) negative patients with cirrhosis treated with alfa-interferon (IFN) monotherapy. PATIENTS AND: A database including 883 consecutive patients (557 men, mean age 54.7 yr) with histologically METHODS: proven cirrhosis trea…
Economic Consequences of Investing in Anti-HCV Antiviral Treatment from the Italian NHS Perspective: A Real-World-Based Analysis of PITER Data
2019
OBJECTIVE:\ud We estimated the cost consequence of Italian National Health System (NHS) investment in direct-acting antiviral (DAA) therapy according to hepatitis C virus (HCV) treatment access policies in Italy.\ud \ud METHODS:\ud A multistate, 20-year time horizon Markov model of HCV liver disease progression was developed. Fibrosis stage, age and genotype distributions were derived from the Italian Platform for the Study of Viral Hepatitis Therapies (PITER) cohort. The treatment efficacy, disease progression probabilities and direct costs in each health state were obtained from the literature. The break-even point in time (BPT) was defined as the period of time required for the cumulativ…
Population screening for liver fibrosis: Toward early diagnosis and intervention for chronic liver diseases
2022
Population screening; Liver fibrosis; Early diagnosis Cribratge de població; Fibrosi hepàtica; Diagnòstic precoç Cribado de población; Fibrosis hepática; Diagnóstico precoz Cirrhosis, highly prevalent worldwide, develops after years of hepatic inflammation triggering progressive fibrosis. Currently, the main etiologies of cirrhosis are non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and alcohol-related liver disease, although chronic hepatitis B and C infections are still major etiological factors in some areas of the world. Recent studies have shown that liver fibrosis can be assessed with relatively high accuracy noninvasively by serological tests, transient elastography, and radiological methods. Thes…

Infrastructura Naturans. Architetture di trasformazione della circonvallazione di Palermo
2022
The article discusses the theoretical system that supports design themes and processes of recycling large urban road infrastructures, referring to an international research that frames them among the sustainable regeneration processes of the contemporary city, and further evoking the project for the transformation of Palermo's ring road that has been elaborated within this research. Witnesses of past urban seasons, these infrastructures are marked by a peculiar morphology that deserves to be maintained, while they must emancipate themselves from asphalt and adapt to new urban mobilities. By hybridizing vegetation and buildings as never before, the longest roadways in our urban contexts may …
