Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis of Cardiac Progenitor Cells in Cases of Myocarditis and Cardiomyopathy

We aimed to identify and quantify CD117+ and CD90+ endogenous cardiac progenitor cells (CPC) in human healthy and diseased hearts. We hypothesize that these cells perform a locally acting, contributing function in overcoming medical conditions of the heart by endogenous means. Human myocardium biopsies were obtained from 23 patients with the following diagnoses: Dilatative cardiomyopathy (DCM), ischemic cardiomyopathy (ICM), myocarditis, and controls from healthy cardiac patients. High-resolution scanning microscopy of the whole slide enabled a computer-based immunohistochemical quantification of CD117 and CD90. In this brief study we will carefully analyze the uses of arribar and aplegar in mediaeval language from Curial e Güelfa. Our goal is to discover when and up to which extent both verbs, arribar and aplegar, share their meaning during the first half of the 15th century, in order to shed light on the current situation of Valencian. At the same time, we will contrast the datum of this anonymous text with former, later and contemporary works from the datum of Corpus Informatitzat del Català Antic (CICA: 2007).

This paper reviews the basic concepts related to notions of variation and functional variation, in particular register, and it questions whether these concepts have been taken into account by the lexicographic tradition. The paper focuses on which are the most suitable marks to recognize several aspects connected with the usage of lexical items: on the one hand the field (topic), the mode (channel), the tenor (purpose), and the tone (formality), as the register’ s components; and on the other hand, various factors concerning cultural, enunciative, and textual grounds.
Evolució de la sintaxi dels contextos de polaritat negativa en castellà i català

In this paper we would like to compare the evolution of the syntax of polar contexts in Catalan and Spanish. By doing so, it would be possible to explain the greater syntactic disponibility of Catalan quantifiers and the important constraints for the same class of words in Spanish. After presenting in the first section the main theoretical questions about polarity in natural languages, we will describe in the second section the syntax of corresponding contexts in Middle Ages for both languages. Then, in the third section we will attend to the evolution towards current situation in order to understand the nature of modern differences between Catalan and Spanish on this area of their syntax.

One of the Aragonese areas where there is better evidence of Catalan-Aragonese dialect transition is la Llitera, an area in the province of Osca where Catalan and Aragonese border varieties remain alive, alongside the North-Western varieties proper. In order to show the internal geovariation in the area, this paper presents the most relevant phonetic and morphological traits which may establish the linguistic adscription of the local dialects. This is supported by a number of maps, which allow us to understand the geolinguistic configuration. An appendix includes five ethnotexts representing some of the towns, with a comment on the dialectal words appearing therein.
