Chemical composition and antibacterial activity of essential oil of Pulicaria odora L.
2004
The chemical composition of the volatile oil constituent from Pulicaria odora L. roots has been analyzed by GC/MS. Twenty-seven components were identified, being thymol (47.83%) and its derivative isobutyrate (30.05%) the main constituents in the oil. Furthermore, the oil was tested against seven bacteria at different concentrations. Results showed that the oil exhibited a significant antibacterial activity.
Pētījuma dalībnieki bija pusaudži vecumā no 13 līdz 15 gadiem. Kopā aptaujās piedalījās 72 dalībnieki, no kuriem 39 bija meitenes (54,2%) un 33 zēni (45,8%). Personības iezīmes tika mērītas ar Lielā piecinieka aptauju (The Big Five Inventory; BFI; John & Srivastava, 1999). Sociālā trauksme tika mērīta ar Sociālās trauksmes aptauju pusaudžiem (Social Anxiety Scale for Adolescents; SAS-A; La Greca and Lopez, 1998). Aptauja latviešu valodā tika adaptēta šī bakalaura darb…
Pharmaceutical potential of synthetic and natural pyrrolomycins
2015
The emergence of antibiotic resistance is currently considered one of the most important global health problem. The continuous onset of multidrug-resistant Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains limits the clinical efficacy of most of the marketed antibiotics. Therefore, there is an urgent need for new antibiotics. Pyrrolomycins are a class of biologically active compounds that exhibit a broad spectrum of biological activities, including antibacterial, antifungal, anthelmintic, antiproliferative, insecticidal, and acaricidal activities. In this review we focus on the antibacterial activity and antibiofilm activity of pyrrolomycins against Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogens…
Capra alba Moyà-Solà, 1987 del Pleistoceno Inferior de la Sierra de Quibas (Albanilla, Murcia, España)
2006
The first palaeontological study of the locality of Quibas dates from the end of the 1990s (Montoya et al., 1999), describing over 60 vertebrate taxa. One of these was a caprine assigned to Capra sp. aff. Capra alba. Recent excavations yielded new remains of this taxon, which permits a more profound study of its affinities and an assignation to Capra alba, without reservation. This assignation is based on the morphological and metrical comparison of the skulls, horn cores, dentition and metapodials from Quibas with those of Capra alba from Venta Micena (Orce Granada).
High-performance micellar liquid chromatography determination of sulphonamides in pharmaceuticals after azodye precolumn derivatization
1995
Abstract A chromatographic procedure with precolumn derivatization to form the N-(1-naphthyl)ethylenediamine dihydrochloride azodyes is proposed for the analysis of several sulphonamides (sodium sulphacetamide, sulphadiazine, sulphaguanidine, sulphamerazine, sulphamethizole, sulphamethoxazole, sulphanilamide and sulphathiazole) in pharmaceutical preparations (tablets, pills, capsules, suspensions and drops). The separation is performed with a 0.05 M sodium dodecyl sulphate/2.4% pentanol eluent at pH 7. The precolumn derivatization improved the resolution in the chromatograms and increased the selectivity in the determination of mixtures of sulphonamides and in preparations where other drugs…
Improving the management of potentially predictable hospital readmissions of the elderly and their quality of life through new icts
2013
3rd International Conference on the Elderly and New Technologies. III Jornadas Internacionales de Mayores y Nuevas Tecnologías. The ageing population is currently beginning to create economic repercussions, as ageing often implies an increase of health expenditure related to, specially, hospital admissions and/or unplanned readmissions and long term care services. The present paper deals with two strategies that could be implemented through the establishment and use of new technologies to avoid these increasing costs: 1) screening tools of health information systems aimed at identifying patients at risk of hospital readmissions or repeated use of health resources; and 2) new icts at elderly…

Artificial neural network applied to prediction of fluorquinolone antibacterial activity by topological methods.
2000
A new topological method that makes it possible to predict the properties of molecules on the basis of their chemical structures is applied in the present study to quinolone antimicrobial agents. This method uses neural networks in which training algorithms are used as well as different concepts and methods of artificial intelligence with a suitable set of topological descriptors. This makes it possible to determine the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) of quinolones. Analysis of the results shows that the experimental and calculated values are highly similar. It is possible to obtain a QSAR interpretation of the information contained in the network after the training has been carried …
