Finding Factors Influencing Students’ Preferences to Concept Mapping Tasks: Literature Review

2014

Abstract There is a broad set of concept mapping tasks which can be used by teachers for assessing students’ knowledge structures but there are no known works of research studying their adaptation to students’ individual differences and preferences in relation to different tasks. The paper reports first results of activities which aim to offer a solution of the abovementioned problem. It is based on extensive review of theoretical and empirical studies and focuses on: a) identification of advantages and drawbacks of different concept mapping tasks, and b) finding factors which may affect students’ concept mapping ability.

Koncepcja urban resilience : narzędzie strategicznej diagnozy i monitoringu miast

2015

Non-linear System Identification with Composite Relevance Vector Machines

2007

Nonlinear system identification based on relevance vector machines (RVMs) has been traditionally addressed by stacking the input and/or output regressors and then performing standard RVM regression. This letter introduces a full family of composite kernels in order to integrate the input and output information in the mapping function efficiently and hence generalize the standard approach. An improved trade-off between accuracy and sparsity is obtained in several benchmark problems. Also, the RVM yields confidence intervals for the predictions, and it is less sensitive to free parameter selection. Teoría de la Señal y Comunicaciones

On Solving the Problem of Identifying Unreliable Sensors Without a Knowledge of the Ground Truth: The Case of Stochastic Environments.

2017

The purpose of this paper is to propose a solution to an extremely pertinent problem, namely, that of identifying unreliable sensors (in a domain of reliable and unreliable ones) without any knowledge of the ground truth. This fascinating paradox can be formulated in simple terms as trying to identify stochastic liars without any additional information about the truth. Though apparently impossible, we will show that it is feasible to solve the problem, a claim that is counterintuitive in and of itself. One aspect of our contribution is to show how redundancy can be introduced, and how it can be effectively utilized in resolving this paradox. Legacy work and the reported literature (for exam…

Fuel cell modelling and test: Experimental validation of model accuracy

2013

In the last few years, renewable energies have been encouraged by worldwide governments to meet energy saving policies. Among renewable energy sources, fuel cells have attracted much interest for a wide variety of research areas. Fuel cell-based residential-scaled power supply systems take advantage of simultaneous generation of power and heat, reducing the overall fossil fuel consumption and utilities cost. Modeling is one of the most important topics concerning fuel cell use. In this paper, a measurement-based steady-state and dynamic fuel cell model is presented. The proposed modelling approach is implemented on a 5kW Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell. The parameters identification proc…

The Traceability Study in the Process of Manufacturing the Cheese With Romano Hard Paste

2014

Abstract A constant concern of the scientific research in the field of food safety is the identification of methods, to determine in an objective way, the quality of the food, available on the market. The paper analyzes the traceability concept, the importance of traceability implementation of a traceability system, in an organization within the food chain.

Online Black-Markets: An Investigation of a Digital Infrastructure in the Dark

2021

AbstractThis paper investigates the functioning of Online Black-Markets (OBMs), i.e. a digital infrastructure operating in the Dark Net that enables the exchange of illegal goods such as drugs, weapons and fake digital identities. OBMs exist notwithstanding adverse conditions such as police interventions, scams and market breakdowns. Relying on a longitudinal case study, we focus on the dynamics of interactions among actors and marketplace technologies and we identify three mechanisms explaining OBMs operations. In particular, we show that OBMs infrastructure is the result of commoditization, platformization and resilience processes. Our contribution relies on the identification of communit…

Self-Organising Maps: A new way to screen the level of satisfaction of dialysis patients

2012

Highlights? FME as dialysis services global provider monitors patient satisfaction in its network. ? A specific questionnaire was developed and administered to the hemodialysis patients. ? To detect residual area of low satisfaction the Self-Organising Map was implemented. ? This method allows identifying niches of dissatisfaction for specific patient groups. Evaluation of patient satisfaction has become an important indicator for assessing health care quality. Fresenius Medical Care (FME) as a global provider of dialysis services through its NephroCare network has a strong interest in monitoring patient satisfaction. The aim of the paper is to test and validate a methodology for detecting a…

Retinoblastoma: History of His Identification, Characterization and Treatment

2015

The first description of a tumor resembling retinoblastoma (RB) was provided on 1597 by Pieter Pauw, who described a malignancy invading the orbit, the temporal region, and the cranium, filled with a "substance similar to brain tissue mixed with thick blood and like crushed stone". Since then, a number of retinal tumors were described and named until the 1922 when Verhoeff called these tumors RB, a term that the American Ophthalmological Society adopted in 1926. In 1971 Knudson focused on RB, and proposed his ‘two-hit’ theory of the molecular etiology of RB. In 1986, the RB1 gene was identified and the ‘two-hit’ theory of Knudson was validated. Successively, new studies in developing retina…

Discovery of hard phase lags in the pulsed emission of GRO J1744-28

2016

We report on the discovery and energy dependence of hard phase lags in the 2.14 Hz pulsed profiles of GRO J1744-28. We used data from XMM-Newton and NuSTAR. We were able to well constrain the lag spectrum with respect to the softest (0.3--2.3 keV) band: the delay shows increasing lag values reaching a maximum delay of $\sim$ 12 ms, between 6 and 6.4 keV. After this maximum, the value of the hard lag drops to 7 ms, followed by a recovery to a plateau at 9 ms for energies above 8 keV. NuSTAR data confirm this trend up to 30 keV, but the measurements are statistically poorer, and therefore, less constraining. The lag-energy pattern up to the discontinuity is well described by a logarithmic fun…
