Risk perception and gratitude mediate the negative relationship between COVID-19 management satisfaction and public anxiety
2023
AbstractIn this study, we explored whether satisfaction with government management, perception of risk, and gratitude influenced public anxiety during the COVID-19 pandemic in China. Using a cross-sectional, anonymous and confidential online survey, a nationwide sample of Chinese adults (N = 876) was targeted between March 25–March 30, 2020, a period in which newly confirmed cases significantly declined in China. The anxiety level was decreased as compared to that assessed during the peak period. Multiple parallel mediation modeling demonstrated that risk perception and gratitude partially mediated the relationship between satisfaction with government management and public anxiety. Increasi…
"Me halutaan ymmärtää" : vanhempien käsityksiä fysioterapeuttisesta ohjauksesta CP-lapsen botuliinihoidon yhteydessä
2014
Safety and efficacy outcomes after intranasal administration of neural stem cells in cerebral palsy : a randomized phase 1/2 controlled trial
2023
Abstract Background Neural stem cells (NSCs) are believed to have the most therapeutic potential for neurological disorders because they can differentiate into various neurons and glial cells. This research evaluated the safety and efficacy of intranasal administration of NSCs in children with cerebral palsy (CP). The functional brain network (FBN) analysis based on electroencephalogram (EEG) and voxel-based morphometry (VBM) analysis based on T1-weighted images were performed to evaluate functional and structural changes in the brain. Methods A total of 25 CP patients aged 3–12 years were randomly assigned to the treatment group (n = 15), which received an intranasal infusion of NSCs loade…
Searching for New Physics in two-neutrino double beta decay with CUPID
2021
Abstract In the past few years, attention has been drawn to the fact that a precision analysis of two-neutrino double beta decay (2υββ) allows the study of interesting physics cases like the emission of Majoron bosons and possible Lorentz symmetry violation. These processes modify the summed-energy distribution of the two electrons emitted in 2υββ. CUPID is a next-generation experiment aiming to exploit 100Mo-enriched scintillating Li2MoO4 crystals, operating as cryogenic calorimeters. Given the relatively fast half-life of 100Mo 2υββ and the large exposure that can be reached by CUPID, we expect to measure with very high precision the 100Mo 2υββ spectrum shape, reaching great sensitivities…
Activin-A, myostatin and interleukin-6 in cancer associated cachexia
2017
Cachexia is a muscle wasting condition associated with multiple different chronic illnesses, such as cancer, diabetes and AIDS. In cancer, approximately 80% of patients with advanced disease have symptoms of muscle wasting, and around 25% of cancer mortality concerns cachexia. Elevated serum levels of different cytokines and TGF-β protein family members, such as Interleukin-6, Myostatin and Activin-A, have been observed in cachetic patients and test animals. However, the mechanistic role and the relative contribution of these molecules to muscle loss in the syndrome have not yet been fully elucidated. In this thesis, the gene-expression levels of Activin-A, Myostatin and Interleukin-6 was a…
Remembering a past princess : Catherine Jagiellon and the construction of national narratives in Sweden and Finland
2019
This chapter tackles the role a Jagiellonian princess, Catherine Jagiellon, has been given in Swedish and Finnish history culture. It illustrates how her figure has entered the historical-cultural memory of both countries, forging and re-forging their national self-image from the end of the sixteenth century through the Cold War, and into contemporary school history teaching. The chapter highlights the differences as well as the similarities of collective memory and history culture associated with Catherine Jagiellon in two Nordic countries with a shared history. It focuses on largely on physical sites of memory such as archives, museums, cathedrals, chapels, castles, commemorative monument…
Cation binding resorcinarene bis-crowns: the effect of lower rim alkyl chain length on crystal packing and solid lipid nanoparticles
2012
A group of seven resorcinarene bis-crown ethers (CNBC5) with two polyether bridges at the upper rim and either propyl, butyl, pentyl, heptyl, nonyl, decyl or undecyl groups at the lower rim were synthesized and their binding properties with Cs+ were investigated by NMR titration. The bis-crowns form 1:2 complexes with Cs+ with binding constants of logK 4–5. Crystal structures of bis-crowns and their Cs+ and K+ complexes were studied and different packing motifs were found depending on the alkyl chain length. Short ethyl, propyl and butyl alkyl chains gave a layer or pillar packing where the polar and non-polar regions cannot be distinguished, whereas longer pentyl and decyl chains formed bi…
Filopodia-like actin cables position nuclei in association with perinuclear actin in Drosophila nurse cells
2013
Summary Controlling the position of the nucleus is vital for a number of cellular processes from yeast to humans. In Drosophila nurse cells, nuclear positioning is crucial during dumping, when nurse cells contract and expel their contents into the oocyte. We provide evidence that in nurse cells, continuous filopodia-like actin cables, growing from the plasma membrane and extending to the nucleus, achieve nuclear positioning. These actin cables move nuclei away from ring canals. When nurse cells contract, actin cables associate laterally with the nuclei, in some cases inducing nuclear turning so that actin cables become partially wound around the nuclei. Our data suggest that a perinuclear a…
Concepts to Reveal Parvovirus–Nucleus Interactions
2021
Parvoviruses are small single-stranded (ss) DNA viruses, which replicate in the nucleoplasm and affect both the structure and function of the nucleus. The nuclear stage of the parvovirus life cycle starts at the nuclear entry of incoming capsids and culminates in the successful passage of progeny capsids out of the nucleus. In this review, we will present past, current, and future microscopy and biochemical techniques and demonstrate their potential in revealing the dynamics and molecular interactions in the intranuclear processes of parvovirus infection. In particular, a number of advanced techniques will be presented for the detection of infection-induced changes, such as DNA modification…
Combination of molecular data support the existence of three main lineages in the phylogeny of aphids (Hemiptera: Aphididae) and the basal position o…
2010
Abstract The first molecular studies on the phylogeny of aphids (Hemiptera: Aphididae) bumped into a striking lack of phylogenetic structure for taxa levels higher than tribe, probably as a consequence of the rapid adaptive radiation that this group of insects went through during the Late Cretaceous. Here we present a new attempt to infer the relationships between major aphid taxa by the separate and combined analysis of two nuclear sequences (the long-wavelength opsin gene and the elongation factor 1α gene) and two mitochondrial sequences (the genes encoding the subunit 6 of the F-ATPase and the subunit II of the cytochrome oxidase). Our results confirm previous results with the grouping o…
