Undercurrents and crosscurrents revealed: Sinéad Morrissey’s parallactic poetry
2015
International audience; In Parallax (2013), her most recent collection of poems, Sinéad Morrissey is attracted to affections “embedded in our cells”, to realities “on the periphery”, to “what happens outside”, to “the accidental”, to “world[s] that can’t be entered”, to “conversation[s] no one else can hear”. She also explores oblique, alternative perspectives that she describes in “The Mutoscope” as “what-the-butler-saw perspective[s]”. Parallax – the optical phenomenon used in astronomy to measure the distance of nearby stars and celestial bodies - serves as the prime metaphor for Morrissey’s poetical and metaphysical quest: the implications of the angle of vision and distance on percepti…
Immagini devote del popolo indiano
2008
This volume, with the preface by Giovanni Filoramo, collects some of the sacred images of "Hinduism" of other religions born in India (Shikism, Buddhism), exhibited during the exhibition of the same name at the Antonio Pasqualino International Puppet Museum from November 22 to December 31. 2007. These cult images are venerated in temples, in private homes and on the streets throughout India. The central idea was to show the iconographic path that these paintings (or photographs) have had in the popular imagination. An informative caption corresponds to each "portrait".

Range image binarization: applications to wooden stamps analysis
2003
This paper deals with the analysis of ancient wooden stamps. The aim is to extract a binary image from the stamp. This image must be the closer to the image produced by inking and using a printing press with the stamps. A range image based method is proposed to extract a stamped image from the stamps. The range image acquisition from a 3D laser scanner is presented. Pre-filtering for range image enhancement is detailed. The range image binarization method is based on an adaptive thresholding. Few simple processes applied on the range image enable a final binarized image computing. The proposed method provides here a very efficient way to perform "virtual" stampings with ancient wooden stamp…
Development of a fast panoramic face mosaicking and recognition system
2005
We present some development results on a system that per- forms mosaicking of panoramic faces. Our objective is to study the fea- sibility of panoramic face construction in real time. To do so, we built a simple acquisition system composed of five standard cameras, which together can take simultaneously five views of a face at different angles. Then, we chose an easily hardware-achievable algorithm, consisting of successive linear transformations, in order to compose a panoramic face from these five views. The method has been tested on a large number of faces. In order to validate our system, we also conducted a preliminary study on panoramic face recognition, based on the principal-compone…
SUPER-RESOLUTION IMAGES ON MOBILE SMARTPHONE AIMED AT 3D MODELING
2022
Abstract. In these last years have been calculated several general algorithms to process the images acquired by mobile devices. Nevertheless, they don't always work at their full effectiveness due the numerous constraints and external issues. The latest generation smartphones, pushed by higher user expectations, have increasingly performing camera functions, in particular way, about the always increasing resolution, with a large number of pixels to process or two cameras for stereo view. Considering that pixels in an image sensor synthetizes the number of incoming photons, taking a photograph with a digital camera means to applying a low-pass filter to a scene where the tiny textures, such …
Fuzzy C-Means Segmentation on Brain MR Slices Corrupted by RF-Inhomogeneity
2007
Brain MR Images corrupted by RF-Inhomogeneity exhibit brightness variations in such a way that a standard Fuzzy C-Means (fcm) segmentation algorithm fails. As a consequence, modified versions of the algorithm can be found in literature, which take into account the artifact. In this work we show that the application of a suitable pre-processing algorithm, already presented by the authors, followed by a standard fcm segmentation achieves good results also. The experimental results ones are compared with those obtained using SPM5, which can be considered the state of the art algorithm oriented to brain segmentation and bias removal.
Camera-based measurement of relative image contrast in projection displays
2013
International audience; This research investigated the measured contrast of projection displays based on pictures taken by un-calibrated digital cameras under typical viewing conditions. A high-end radiometer was employed as a reference to the physical response of projection luminance. Checkerboard, gray scale and color complex test images with a range of the projector's brightness and contrast settings were projected. Two local and two global contrast metrics were evaluated on the acquired pictures. We used contrast surface plots and Pearson correlation to investigate the measured contrast versus the projector's brightness and contrast settings. The results suggested, as expected, the proj…

Capteurs et images aériennes pour l’évaluation du peuplement de mauvaises herbes
2013
AIRINOV is specialized in use of UAV for precision agriculture. Thanks to a high spatial resolution up to 1.5 cm/pixel in RGB images, discrimination between vegetation (crop row, weed) and soil can be done. Variability can be detected in weed density inside the whole field. The detection of weeds in the inter-row of hoed row crops was tested on RGB images. The methodology developed is based on Hough transform, and is composed of three main steps: image segmentation, soil/vegetation discrimination and crop rows localization. First results are promising but need complementary measures for validation.
