Samodzielność i kompetencje jako uwarunkowania niezależności życiowej osób z niepełnosprawnością - wybranie obszary szans i zagrożeń
2018
Autorka omawia wybrane obszary szans i zagrożeń w kształtowaniu niezależności życiowej osób z niepełnosprawnością. Do nich z kolei zalicza się m.in. wychowanie rodzinne, edukację, postawy społeczne czywspierające działania państwa. Do szczegółowej prezentacji zagadnienia autorka wykorzystu…

2017
In a family setting, disagreements between parents and their teenage children are commonplace. This study seeks to measure a teenager’s degree of independence alongside their level of communication with their parents in order to identify the most relevant factors in this relationship and to understand its signifi cance. The study shows that teenagers exhibit a marked tendency to seek increased independence as they develop, although their parents may measure the speed at which their children mature differently. The variables of age, self-esteem, and sex (of both the children and their parents) reveal that confl ict between teenagers and their parents is a natural step in the maturation proce…
Advertising in Latvia
2002
Latvia is one of the three Baltic States, and recovered its independence in 1991. The development of an advertising industry in Latvia started with the decay of the Soviet Union. The recovery of independence and the transition period to the market economy, as in all of the former USSR, required rapid development of the advertising industry. The birth and development of this field was inescapable, and was dictated by the competitive principles of the market economy. As with individual advertisements, the whole advertising market in Latvia is specific, and it is slowly developing its own character. Many foreign companies have entered the Latvian advertising market, each of them bringing its u…
Young Scottish National Party Members’ Perceptions of Scotland and the United Kingdom
2021
This paper explores young Scottish National Party (SNP) members’ views of Scotland and the United Kingdom. It is based on the analysis of the results of an online survey and interviews with young SNP members about their political engagement and their understanding of national identity, which we carried out from 2018 to 2020. Our study focuses especially on how the members of Young Scots for Independence (YSI) and SNP Students, the youth and student wings of the SNP, perceive the Scottish nation and the UK. This paper reflects upon the way these young people define Scottishness and Scottish society. It also discusses the role of national identity in their campaign for independence. Do they w…
FATHERS AND CHILDREN OF IVORIAN INDEPENDENCE: METAPHORS OF KINSHIP AND GENERATION IN THE MAKING OF A NATIONAL TIME
2015
I look at the image of a generation of youth as the vanguard force of an ongoing struggle for independence and a new nation on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of Ivorian independence. Drawing upon the theoretical framework of Reinhart Koselleck, I explore the making of national time as layered temporality, with generations not succeeding each other but rather coexisting. My analysis of expressions and performances of ‘doing being youth’ helps in understanding how the label ‘youth’ is used to mark membership in or exclusion from a collective. I examine the process of how ‘youth’ is made into a meaningful marker and how and why political actors engage in performances of ‘being youth’…
The Moderating Role of Intellectual Humility in the Adoption of ICT: A Study Across Life-Span
2018
Literature has shown age-related differences in the adoption process. In this way, it is very important to encourage the adoption of ICT by the elderly, in order to maintain their independence in daily life. However, some specific cognitive variables were not considered in theoretical models until a decade ago. One of the emerging fields in this area is the science of learnable intelligence, which investigates the role of thinking dispositions. The variable which we have focused on is intellectual humility. For this propose, a sample of 306 participants from 18 to 87 years was selected. Age was selected as a predictor variable. Intellectual humility was tested as a moderator between ageing …
State Sovereignty: Balancing Effectiveness and Legality/Legitimacy
2018
This chapter aims to examine one of the most interesting topics in the contemporary internationalist debate, namely the crisis of effectiveness as the ultimate or sufficient criterion for achieving statehood and territorial sovereignty. Since the 1970s the perception that international law can no longer accept social reality as it is but promotes and imposes standards of justice and common values has become increasingly widespread. More recently, the ensuing discussion between realists and legalists emerged as one of the central topics addressed within the framework of the advisory procedure concerning Kosovo’s declaration of independence. By discussing and critically appraising the normati…
