Powerful odorants in bovine, ovine, caprine and water buffalo milk determined by means of gas chromatography-olfactometry
1993
SummaryThe main compounds responsible for the aroma of bovine, ovine, caprine and water buffalo freshly secreted milk have been identified by means of a gas chromatography–olfactometry technique. Of the fourteen odour-active volatile compounds detected, eight were present in all milks studied. Ethylbutanoate and ethylhexanoate (fruit-like aroma), among the neutral odorants, were the major contributors to the odour of bovine, ovine and caprine milk. The aroma of water buffalo milk was less dependent on ethylhexanoate and was also due to l-octen-3-ol (aroma of raw mushrooms), nonanal (freshly cut grass), indole (stable, animals) and an unidentified constituent, characterized by a retention in…
Reducing pesticide use through crop diversification
2022
Managing pests while reducing pesticide use is a major challenge to improve cropping system sustainability. Crop diversification appears as a promising tool to promote ecosystem services such as pest control (Tamburini et al., 2020; Beillouin et al., 2021). Lechenet et al. (2016) identified crop sequence and crop diversity, among other management practices, as important factors to reduce pesticide use in most French production situations. Crop diversification could allow the reduction of pesticide use at the cropping system level through: i) the introduction of crops with low intrinsic pesticide use (i.e. grassland, sunflower,…) and ii) the disruption of biological cycles of pests and disea…
Robert de Montessus de Ballore, mathématicien, éditeur de l'Index Generalis 1919-1937
2010
Performances of neural networks for deriving LAI estimates from existing CYCLOPES and MODIS products
2008
International audience; This paper evaluates the performances of a neural network approach to estimate LAI from CYCLOPES and MODIS nadir normalized reflectance and LAI products. A data base was generated from these products over the BELMANIP sites during the 2001-2003 period. Data were aggregated at 3 km x 3 km, resampled at 1/16 days temporal frequency and filtered to reject outliers. VEGETATION and MODIS reflectances show very consistent values in the red, near infrared and short wave infrared bands. Neural networks were trained over part of this data base for each of the 6 MODIS biome classes to retrieve both MODIS and CYCLOPES LAI products. Results show very good performances of neural …
Localisation basée vision à partir de caractéristiques discriminantes issues de données visuelles hétérogènes
2019
Visual-based Localization (VBL) consists in retrieving the location of a visual image within a known space. VBL is involved in several present-day practical applications, such as indoor and outdoor navigation, 3D reconstruction, etc. The main challenge in VBL comes from the fact that the visual input to localize could have been taken at a different time than the reference database. Visual changes may occur on the observed environment during this period of time, especially for outdoor localization. Recent approaches use complementary information in order to address these visually challenging localization scenarios, like geometric information or semantic information. However geometric or sema…
Construction of quality indicators based on pre-established goals: application to a colombian public university
2020
This study creates indicators of adequacy and excellence based on multiple-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods and fuzzy logic. The calculation of indicators presents two main difficulties: The nature of the data (numerical, interval, and linguistic values are mixed) and the objective of each criterion (which does not have to reach either the maximum or the minimum). A method is proposed, based on similarity measures with predetermined ideals, that is capable of overcoming these difficulties to provide easy-to-interpret information about the quality of the alternatives. To illustrate the usefulness of this proposed method, it has been applied to data collected from students across nine …
Relationship between mothers' thoughts and behaviors and their daughters' development of the body image
2019
Behaviors related to body image are influenced by learning and sociocultural environment; the parents can contribute to their children’s food problems through social values that they are supporting. Furthermore, it is known that during the development of the body image of girls it is fundamental the identification with the parent of the same sex. However, the extent of maternal influence is unknown, so our aim is to analyze the relationship between thoughts and behaviors of mothers and the development of their daughters’ body image, specifically on the variables: perceived image and ideal image, satisfaction and concern about body image, and social network behaviors. The study involved 53 p…
A more efficient second order blind identification method for separation of uncorrelated stationary time series
2016
The classical second order source separation methods use approximate joint diagonalization of autocovariance matrices with several lags to estimate the unmixing matrix. Based on recent asymptotic results, we propose a novel unmixing matrix estimator which selects the best lag set from a finite set of candidate sets specified by the user. The theory is illustrated by a simulation study. peerReviewed
Bone marrow-derived progenitors are greatly reduced in patients with severe COPD and low-BMI.
2009
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients have reduced circulating hemopoietic progenitors. We hypothesized that severity of COPD parallels the decrease in progenitors and that the reduction in body mass index (BMI) could be associated with more severe bone marrow dysfunction. We studied 39 patients with moderate to very severe COPD (18 with low-BMI and 21 with normal-BMI) and 12 controls. Disease severity was associated to a greater reduction in circulating progenitors. Proangiogenetic and inflammatory markers correlated with disease severity parameters. Compared to normal-BMI patients, low-BMI patients showed: greater reduction in circulating progenitors; higher VEGF-A, VEGF-C…
