Abstract The thin-layer chromatography of 2-methyl-4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid, 4-chloro- o -cresol and 3-methyl-5-chlorocatechol and their pentafluorobenzyl derivatives has been studied on silica gel as adsorbent with 19 solvent systems. The best separation of the individual components occurred with toluene-benzene-acetic acid (2:2:1). Chloroform-diethyl ether-toluene (1:1:1) was suitable for the group separation of the pentafluorobenzyl derivatives.
Self-generated Drawing: A Help or Hindrance to Learning from Animation?

The considerable potential of animations to aid learning about dynamic systems too often remains unfulfilled when the targeted subject matter is complex and unfamiliar. Various approaches designed to support learning from animation in such cases have met with limited success. Recent studies on learning from demanding texts indicate that educational outcomes can be improved if learners are required to self-generate drawings during their study of a text. Combination of searches for anomalous top quark couplings with 5.4 fb−1 of pp¯ collisions

We present measurements of the tWb coupling form factors using information from electroweak single top quark production and from the helicity of W bosons from top quark decays in t (t) over bar events. We set upper limits on anomalous tWb coupling form factors using data collected with the DO detector at the Tevatron p (p) over bar collider corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb(-1).
Synthesis, Anti-Inflammatory Activity, and in Vitro Antitumor Effect of a Novel Class of Cyclooxygenase Inhibitors: 4-(Aryloyl)phenyl Methyl Sulfones

Following our previous research on anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), we report on the design and synthesis of 4-(aryloyl)phenyl methyl sulfones. These substances were characterized for their capacity to inhibit cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) isoenzymes. Molecular modeling studies showed that the methylsulfone group of these compounds was inserted deep in the pocket of the human COX-2 binding site, in an orientation that precludes hydrogen bonding with Arg120, Ser353, and Tyr355 through their oxygen atoms. In box girder bridges, the quantity and distribution of reinforcement to be put in concrete elements of sections can be evaluated only by considering the deformation of the cross section in addition to the longitudinal analysis of the static scheme, establishing the entire state of stress of box sections. This leads to a need to evaluate the interaction between internal forces obtained by the global analysis and the ones obtained by the local analysis of the cross sections. The frame effect implies the elastic deformation of slabs and webs, whereas eccentrically applied loads lead to cross-section distortion with the loss of the box shape. Determination of enrichment factors for modified RNA in MeRIP experiments

In the growing field of RNA modification, precipitation techniques using antibodies play an important role. However, little is known about their specificities and protocols are missing to assess their effectiveness. Here we present a method to assess enrichment factors after MeRIP-type pulldown experiments, here exemplified with a commercial antibody against N6-methyladenosine (m6A). Testing different pulldown and elution conditions, we measure enrichment factors of 4-5 using m6A-containing mRNAs against an unmodified control of identical sequence. Solution and solid-state studies on the halide binding affinity of perfluorophenyl-armed uranyl–salophen receptors enhanced by anion–π Interactions

The enhancement of the binding between halide anions and a Lewis acidic uranyl-salophen receptor has been achieved by the introduction of pendant electron- deficient arene units into the receptor skeleton. The association and the occurrence of the elusive anion-p interaction with halide anions (as tetrabutylammonium salts) have been demonstrated in solution and in the solid state, providing unambiguous evidence on the interplay of the concerted interactions responsible for the anion binding.
