A Stigmergic Guiding System to Facilitate the Group Decision Process
2012
The paper presents a stigmergic approach to engineer a guiding system to facilitate the complex problem of designing the group decision processes. The system aims to provide contextual, actionable recommendations based on the knowledge and past experience of its users as recorded in a collaborative working environment implemented around the concept of stigmergic systems. Through an agent-based socio-simulation experiment we have demonstrated already the feasibility of this approach. The paper illustrates how the simulation results are transferred into a guiding system that facilitates the group decision process design through iterative queries reformulations for the identification, represen…
XPL, a Presentation Language based on User Interface Design Pattern
2007
The great diversity of presentations in software applications deals with fulfillment of various type of graphic interface constructions related to different programming Languages. Moreover, in the Internet era html pages play a main role because of the increasing complexity of Web applications. In Software Engineering, the use of design patterns is proven remarkable for the design and reuse of software components. Visual Design. Patterns (ViDP) are useful to define interaction schemas between. user and computer. By the some token, visual design. patterns are useful to incorporate common interfaces of interaction, schemas between user and computer. This paper describes the eXtensible Present…
Isospin-breaking corrections to superallowed Fermi beta-decay in isospin- and angular momentum-projected nuclear Density Functional Theory
2012
Background: The superallowed beta-decay rates provide stringent constraints on physics beyond the Standard Model of particle physics. To extract crucial information about the electroweak force, small isospin-breaking corrections to the Fermi matrix element of superallowed transitions must be applied. Purpose: We perform systematic calculations of isospin-breaking corrections to superallowed beta-decays and estimate theoretical uncertainties related to the basis truncation, time-odd polarization effects related to the intrinsic symmetry of the underlying Slater determinants, and to the functional parametrization. Methods: We use the self-consistent isospin- and angular-momentum-projected nuc…
Cytoplasmic Parvovirus Capsids Recruit Importin Beta for Nuclear Delivery
2019
Parvoviruses are an important platform for gene and cancer therapy. Their cell entry and the following steps, including nuclear import, are inefficient, limiting their use in therapeutic applications. Two models exist on parvoviral nuclear entry: the classical import of the viral capsid using nuclear transport receptors of the importin (karyopherin) family or the direct attachment of the capsid to the nuclear pore complex leading to the local disintegration of the nuclear envelope. Here, by laser scanning confocal microscopy and in situ proximity ligation analyses combined with coimmunoprecipitation, we show that infection requires importin β-mediated access to the nuclear pore complex and …
Accessing and selecting menu items by in-air touch
2019
Is it possible to realize a non-visual, purely tactile version of an icon-based menu? Driven by such question, a hierarchical tactile dock was designed for an array of ultrasound emitters. The icons were conceived as spatio-temporal variable-speed sequences of tactile stimulation points, that are passively perceived as trajectories drawn on the palm of the hand. The recognition rate on four icons largely improved prior performance results obtained by active haptic exploration. As a result, a four-icons set can be used as the first level of a hierarchy of symbols that can be navigated by touch and gesture. The design process, based on controlled recognition experiments and exploration of dis…
Low density lipoproteins and human serum albumin as the carriers of squalenoylated drugs: insights from molecular simulations
2018
We have studied the interaction of three clinically promising squalenoylated drugs (gemcitabine-squalene, adenine-squalene, and doxorubicin-squalene) with low-density lipoproteins (LDL) by means of atomistic molecular dynamics simulations. It is shown that all studied squalenoylated drugs accumulate inside the LDL particles. This effect is promoted by the squalene moiety, which acts as an anchor and drives the hydrophilic drugs into the hydrophobic core of the LDL lipid droplet. Our data suggest that LDL particles could be a universal carriers of squalenoylated drugs in the bloodstream. Interaction of gemcitabine-squalene with human serum albumin (HSA) was also studied by ensemble of dockin…
Why Am I the Only One You’re Talking to, Talk to Them, They Haven’t Said a Word? : Pitfalls and Challenges of Having the Child in the Focus of Family…
2021
Children with conduct disorders are at risk of being positioned in the family therapy as ‘the problem’. This study describes how the difficulties were talked about and how the child coped in this situation. The results showed: the parents produced symptom-oriented problem talk about the child’s behavior, rendering systemic reformulation of the problem challenging. The negative interaction made the climate unsafe and impaired consideration of the child’s behavior as a meaningful way for the child to become seen and heard. This study enriches understanding of the therapeutic challenge therapists face with high-risk families from the very beginning of the treatment. peerReviewed

Why have consumers opposed, postponed, and rejected Innovations during a pandemic? A Study of mobile payment Innovations
2021
The highly infectious nature of the COVID-19 virus has made the use of contactless payment methods a health exigency. Yet, consumers are resisting using mobile payments (m-payments) during the pandemic, a confounding behavior that needs to be better understood. The present study explicates this behavior by examining consumer resistance to m-payments during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, it provides more granular findings by measuring three levels of resistance/non-adoption, namely, postponement, opposition, and rejection. In this way, the study adds depth to the literature, which has largely examined resistance at an aggregate level to yield generic findings. Toward this end, the study…
Pentafluorophenyl salicylamine receptors in anion–π interaction studies
2012
A crystal structure analysis confirms the appropriateness of pentafluorophenyl salicylamine (1a) as a π-acceptor for anion–π interactions. Crystals of 1a·HCl show that the OH-group fixes the anion in a η2-type binding motif above the electron-deficient arene. Attempts to find some relevance for this weak intermolecular force in solution failed. Stronger CH–, NH– and OH–anion interactions are dominant over the weak anion–π interactions. Due to the hydrogen bonding, the non-fluorinated receptor exhibits the highest binding constants within this series.
