Reproducing kernel hilbert spaces regression methods for genomic assisted prediction of quantitative traits.

Abstract Reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces regression procedures for prediction of total genetic value for quantitative traits, which make use of phenotypic and genomic data simultaneously, are discussed from a theoretical perspective. It is argued that a nonparametric treatment may be needed for capturing the multiple and complex interactions potentially arising in whole-genome models, i.e., those based on thousands of single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers. Label-free piezoelectric biosensor for prognosis and diagnosis of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

[EN] An autoantigen piezoelectric sensor to quantify specific circulating autoantibodies in human serum is developed. The sensor consisted on a quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring (QCM-D) where TRIM21 and TROVE2 autoantigens were covalently immobilized, allowing the selective determination of autoantibodies for diagnosis and prognosis of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). The sensitivity of the biosensor, measured as IC50 value, was 1.51 U/mL and 0.32 U/mL, for anti-TRIM21 and anti-TROVE2 circulating autoantibodies, respectively. NOVEL COMPOSED GALACTOSYLATED NANODEVICES CONTAINING A RIBAVIRIN PRODRUG AS HEPATIC CELL-TARGETED CARRIERS FOR HCV TREATMENT

In this paper, we describe the preparation of liver-targeted nanoparticles potentially able to carry to hepatocytes a ribavirin (RBV) prodrug, exploiting the presence of carbohydrate receptors in the liver (i.e., ASGPR in hepatocytes). These particles were obtained starting from a galactosylated phospholipid-polyaminoacid conjugate. Implication of three isoforms of PLA2in human T-cell proliferation

We observed that human (Jurkat) T-cells constitutively expressed the mRNA, encoding for the four isoforms of phospholipase A(2) (PLA(2)), i.e. two secretory (type IB and type V), and two cytosolic (type IV, Ca(2+)-dependent and type VI, Ca(2+)-independent). In order to assess whether these PLA(2) isoforms are active, we labeled Jurkat T-cells with [(3)H]arachidonic acid ([(3)H]AA) and determined its release into the extracellular medium in the presence of phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA) and ionomycin. AbstractPhospholipase A2, a ubiquitous lipolytic enzyme that actively catalyses hydrolysis of phospholipids, has been studied as a model for enzyme-substrate reactions, as a membrane structural probe, and as a model for lipid-protein interactions. Its mechanism of action remains largely controversial. We report here for the first time direct microscopic observation of the lipolytic action of fluorescently marked phospholipase A2 (Naja naja naja) against phosphatidylcholine monolayers in the lipid phase transition region. Small unilamellar liposomes from mixed natural and polymeric phospholipids: stability and susceptibility to phospholipase A2.

The concept of the uncorkable liposome composed of phase-separated mixtures of a polymerized phospholipid and an enzymically digestible phospholipid has been investigated, using small unilamellar vesicles composed of mixtures of (polymerized) dienoylphosphatidylcholine (DENPC) and dimyristoylphosphatidylcholine (DMPC). Mixed liposomes, even those containing only 10% DENPC, were much more stable than DMPC liposomes, as indicated by the release of entrapped [3H]inulin or [14C]glucose. DMPC liposomes released entrapped solute on exposure to phospholipase A2, whereas mixed vesicles were resistant. This paper discusses the floristic structure, distribution and habitat requirements of a new forest syntaxon, <em>Populetum talassicae </em>ass. nova. The potential range of the <em>Populetum talassicae </em>association comprises the central Pamir-Alai and Tian-Shan Mountains in Middle Asia. The biotope of this community comprises high mountain river valleys and shore zones of mountain lakes situ- ated at elevations between 2200 and 2750 m. COVARIANCE AND CORRELATION ESTIMATORS IN BIPARTITE SYSTEMS

We present a weighted estimator of the covariance and correlation in bipartite complex systems with a double layer of heterogeneity. The advantage provided by the weighted estimators lies in the fact that the unweighted sample covariance and correlation can be shown to possess a bias. Indeed, such a bias affects real bipartite systems, and, for example, we report its effects on two empirical systems, one social and the other biological. On the contrary, our newly proposed weighted estimators remove the bias and are better suited to describe such systems.

Dissipation of post-pulse laser-induced alignment of CO2through collisions with Ar

In this paper, laser-induced field-free alignment of CO2 in mixtures with Ar is investigated under dissipative conditions (up to 15 bars) at room temperature. The degree of alignment is temporally monitored by a polarization spectroscopy technique, where a weak probe pulse measures the transient birefringence resulting from the alignment. The data are analyzed with a quantum mechanical density matrix formalism using properly J-dependent and M-dependent state-to-state transfer rates, which was previously successfully tested on pure CO2 and CO2–He mixtures.
