QEC value of the superallowed β emitter 42Sc

The QEC value of the superallowed β+ emitter Sc42 has been measured with the JYFLTRAP Penning-trap mass spectrometer at the University of Jyväskylä to be 6426.350(53) keV. This result is at least a factor of four more precise than all previous measurements, which were also inconsistent with one another. As a byproduct we determine the excitation energy of the 7+ isomeric state in Sc42 to be 616.762(46) keV, which deviates by 8σ from the previous measurement. peerReviewed
Synthesis of isoindolo[1,4]benzoxazinone and isoindolo[1,5]benzoxazepine: two new ring systems of pharmaceutical interest

Abstract Two new ring systems, isoindolo[1,4]benzoxazinone and isoindolo[1,5]benzoxazepine, were conveniently synthesized through cyclization of suitably substituted isoindole derivatives. Some of the new compounds exhibited antiproliferative activity against a wide range of human tumor cell lines with GI 50 mean values at low micromolar level (3.72–5.13 μM).

A Note on added information in the RAS Procedure: reexamination of some evidence

International audience; An example in Miernyk (1977) presented a rather counterintuitive result, namely that introducing accurate exogenous information into an RAS matrix estimating procedure could lead to an estimate that was worse than one generated by RAS using no exogenous information at all. This became an oft-cited black mark against RAS. Miller and Blair (1985) included a different (and small) illustration of the same possibility. It was recently pointed out by one of us that the Miller/Blair numerical results are wrong. For that reason, we decided to reexamine all the empirical evidence we could find on the subject. Heterogeneous PBLAS: Optimization of PBLAS for Heterogeneous Computational Clusters

This paper presents a package, called Heterogeneous PBLAS (HeteroPBLAS), which is built on top of PBLAS and provides optimized parallel basic linear algebra subprograms for heterogeneous computational clusters. We present the user interface and the software hierarchy of the first research implementation of HeteroPBLAS. This is the first step towards the development of a parallel linear algebra package for heterogeneous computational clusters. We demonstrate the efficiency of the HeteroPBLAS programs on a homogeneous computing cluster and a heterogeneous computing cluster.

Microtubules are dynamic structures that play a crucial role in cellular division and are recognized as an important target for cancer therapy. In search of new compounds with strong antiproliferative activity and simple molecular structure, a new series of 2-amino-3-(3',4',5'-trimethoxybenzoyl)-5-(hetero)aryl ethynyl thiophene derivatives was prepared by the Sonogashira coupling reaction of the corresponding 5-bromothiophenes with several (hetero)aryl acetylenes. Occurrence of antibiotic-resistant pathogenic or commensal enterobacteria in marketed agricultural foodstuffs may contribute to their incorporation into the food chain and constitutes an additional food safety concern. In this work, we have determined the clinically relevant resistances to 11 common chemotherapeutic agents in Enterobacter and Klebsiella isolates from fresh vegetables from various sources (supermarkets and greengrocers' shops in Valencia, Spain). From small enterprises all the way up to financial markets, economic calculation is an activity routinely conducted in economic life-worlds. This paper argues that calculation is situated in the practice of participants involved in these life-worlds as well as in the technological tools they use. It champions a sociological analysis of the world-constituting character of calculation.
