P3‐039: Axonal neuritic pathology induces early presynaptic alterations in ps1/APP Alzheimer's mice hippocampus
2011
Loss of neurons in the hippocampus correlates with memory impairment in AD. Significant early reduction in the numerical density of hippocampal SOM interneurons was found in single (APPswe) and double (APPswe/ PS1dE9 and APPswe/TauP301S-G272V) transgenic models based on APP over expression and amyloid production. However, this inhibitory population was unaffected in age-matched single PS1 and tau transgenic mice as well as nontransgenic controls. Whereas SOM neuron loss in APPswe/PS1dE9 was associated to the onset of extracellular amyloid pathology in double APP/ tau mice this loss preceded plaque formation. Conclusions: As in human AD, somatostatin cell loss is a common early pathological …
High resolution mouse subventricular zone stem cell niche transcriptome reveals features of lineage, anatomy, and aging
2020
AbstractAdult neural stem cells (NSC) serve as a reservoir for brain plasticity and origin for certain gliomas. Lineage tracing and genomic approaches have portrayed complex underlying heterogeneity within the major anatomical location for NSC, the subventricular zone (SVZ). To gain a comprehensive profile of NSC heterogeneity, we utilized a well validated stem/progenitor specific reporter transgene in concert with single cell RNA sequencing to achieve unbiased analysis of SVZ cells from infancy to advanced age. The magnitude and high specificity of the resulting transcriptional data sets allow precise identification of the varied cell types embedded in the SVZ including specialized parench…
Designed surface modes propagating along hyperbolic metamaterials
2013
We report on surface-wave propagation (SWP) that occurs in semi-infinite hyperbolic metamaterials whose optical axis is set in the interface plane. In practice it is implemented by a multi-layered metal-dielectric nanostructure that is cut normally to the layers. Our theoretical analysis shows that various conditions can be designed enabling distinct regimes of SWP. We concluded that hybridization of SWP polarization leads to tighter confinement near the interface as compared with conventional surface plasmon polaritons. By using the finite-element method (FEM), we demonstrate that the fields are enhanced on the walls of metallic films, and thus minimizing significantly its presence inside …
Elektrophysiologische Untersuchung zum Einsatz von Streptolysin O und Natrium-Hyaluronat zur Permeabilitätsmodulation der Membran des runden Fensters…
2003
Background: The round window membrane (RWM) acts like a barrier for topically applied substances into the middle ear preventing diffusion into the perilymphatic fluid compartment. Material and Method: In an animal model, modulation of the permeability of the RWM was attempted using Streptolysin-O (SLO) in various concentrations and sodium hyaluronate. Thereafter, the effect of intratympanically applied Lidocain 2% on hearing threshold measured by auditory brainstem response was tested for Lidocain 2 % and Lidocain 2 % in combination with SLO or sodium hyaluronate. Results: The results show that both, SLO and sodium hyaluronate, influence the effect of Lidocain 2 % on hearing thresholds as a…

Reaction centers (RC) from the species Erythrobacter (Eb.) litoralis, Erythromonas (Em.) ursincola and Sandaracinobacter (S.) sibiricus have been purified by LDAO treatment of light-harvesting-reaction center complexes and DEAE chromatography. The content and overall organisation of the RCs' chromophores, determined by linear dichroism (LD) and absorption spectroscopy, are similar to those isolated from anaerobic photosynthetic bacteria. The redox properties of the primary electron donor are pH-independent and very similar to those determined for anaerobic photosynthetic bacteria with midpoint potential values equal to 445 (± 10), 475 and 510 mV for Eb. litoralis, S. sibiricus and Em. ursin…
<em>El dibujado</em>: volver a la pared
2021
The exhibition El dibujado by Paco Roca (IVAM, 2019) is an exploration of the paradigm shift brought forth by the abandonment of paper and reproducibility as a space for the dissemination of the comic strip. The exhibition hall of a museum (the Instituto Valenciano de Arte Moderno) becomes a space for formal and ephemeral experimentation at different levels, from the purely creative to the pondering about the unexplored possibilities of the language of the comic book. With this exhibition cartoonist Paco Roca poses a challenge to a spectator who is called to leave his/her role as a visitor and become the reader of an experience in which s/he becomes a part of the work’s own narrative. The a…
Generalized feed-forward based method for wind energy prediction
2013
Abstract Even though a number of new mathematical functions have been proposed for modeling wind speed probability density distributions, still the Weibull function continues to be the most commonly used model in the literature. Therefore, the parameters of this function are still widely used to obtain typical wind probability density distributions for finding the wind energy potential by researchers, engineers and designers. Once long-term average of Weibull function’s parameters are known, then the probability density distributions can easily be obtained. Artificial neural network (ANN) can be used as alternative to analytical approach as ANN offers advantages such as no required knowledg…
Photoluminescence of Ga-face AlGaN/GaN single heterostructures
2001
Abstract The radiative recombination in Ga-face Al 0.30 Ga 0.70 N/GaN single heterostructures (SHs) was studied by photoluminescence (PL) measurements. An energy shift of the excitonic transitions toward higher energies was observed, indicating the presence of residual compressive strain in the GaN layer. In addition to these exciton lines, a broad band energetically localized between the exciton lines and the LO-phonon replica was noticed in the undoped SH. From its energy position, excitation power dependence, as well as temperature behaviour, we have attributed this luminescence to the H -band (HB), which is representative of the two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) recombination.
Meson and glueball spectroscopy within the graviton soft wall model
2021
The graviton soft wall model (GSW) provides a unified description of the scalar glueball and meson spectra with a unique energy scale. This success has led us to extend the analysis to the description of the spectra of other hadrons. We use this model to calculate masses of the odd and even ground states of glueballs for various spins, and show that the GSW model is able to reproduce the Regge trajectory of these systems. In addition, the spectra of the $\rho$, $a_1$ and the $\eta$ mesons will be addressed. Results are in excellent agreement with current experimental data.Furthermore such an achievement is obtained without any additional parameters. Indeed, the only two parameters appearing…
Honeybees affect floral microbiome composition in a central food source for wild pollinators in boreal ecosystems
2021
AbstractBasic knowledge on dispersal of microbes in pollinator networks is essential for plant, insect, and microbial ecology. Thorough understanding of the ecological consequences of honeybee farming on these complex plant–pollinator–microbe interactions is a prerequisite for sustainable honeybee keeping. Most research on plant–pollinator–microbe interactions have focused on temperate agricultural systems. Therefore, information on a wild plant that is a seasonal bottleneck for pollinators in cold climate such as Salix phylicifolia is of specific importance. We investigated how floral visitation by insects influences the community structure of bacteria and fungi in Salix phylicifolia inflo…
