Fluorogenic detection of reactive (bio)analytes is often achieved with "smart" probes, whose activation mechanism causes the release of aniline-based fluorophores. Indeed, the protection-deprotection of their primary amino is the simplest way to induce dramatic and valuable changes in spectral features of the fluorogenic reporter. In this context, and due to their small size and intrinsic hydrophilicity, we focused on pyronin dyes and related heteroatom analogs (i.e., formal derivatives of 3-imino-3H-xanthen-6-amine and its silicon analog) for their use as optically tunable aniline-based fluorophores. Some working principles of heterogeneous photocatalysis by semiconductors

The present paper outlines some of the principles which are the working base for the photocatalytic processes: we refer to those photocatalytic processes performed using irradiated semiconductors. The steps related to the photoproduction of electron-hole pairs and their separation are discussed. It is also shown how the step of pair separation induces the formation of various chemical species, some of which are useful for the oxidation reactions. It is also shown that in order to reach a detailed description of photocatalytic processes it is necessary to have the knowledge of both the electronic and the physicochemical features of the semiconductors. The purpose of this paper is to study the historical contact between Aragonese and Catalan lexicon, in the context of the Romance languages, taking into account the historical influence exerted by the Aragonese on the Valencian language, which is also influenced by other Eastern peninsular dialects. We have used a method based on Geolinguistics and documentation, in order to analyze some words from popular authors from Valencia and Aragon of the XVIIIth, XIXth and XXth centuries. La fase del Ibérico final en el asentamiento del Torrelló del Boverot (Almazora, Castellón): dos piezas cerámicas singulares

Since the end of 1988, when excavation was resumed at the Torrelló del Boverot site in Almazora (Castellón), large amounts of material —mostly ceramics— have been recovered, dating from the end of the Iberian period, which, chronologically, marked the end of the village's life. This paper discusses two unusual ceramic pieces from this late period, documented during the excavations that took place in 1995, undertaken in the central area of the site. The records obtained in this work matches that of a batch of materials donated to the Museum of Almazora by the amateurs who excavated this village in the mid-1970s.

In this work we are going to take a chronological and typological tour by studying the iconography that appears in the Hellenistic wares imported from the Central and Oriental Mediterranean between 3rd and 2nd centuries BC in Hispania Citerior, in particular from Cartagena. We are going to analyze its functionality in the places of origin, and with the help of the Hispanic contexts we will conclude whether its presence here is a consequence of a certain commercial dynamic, or if it answers to a decorative preference, of taste or trend; even if the images are significant related to ritual or convivial uses, public or private, by the local inhabitant who acquires and uses them.
Estela antropomorfa con inscripción ibérica del Mas de Barberán (Nogueruelas, Teruel)

The subject of this paper is a little known Iberian gravestele from Nogueruelas (Teruel). The find-spot, the Mas de Barberán, is close to the boundary with Cortes de Arenoso (Castellón). The piece is one of a class of stele charactised by figurative decoration and an inscription. The discussion focusses on the anthropomorphic shape of the piece, its iconography —the disk-cuirass—, and the inscription.

Il contributo presenta alcune fonti iconografiche (un dipinto, incisioni e disegni) appartenenti alle collezioni della Galleria Regionale della Sicilia di Palazzo Abatellis, databili tra XVII e XIX secolo, che ritraggono architetture trecentesche siciliane. Frammento di un vasto patrimonio visuale, che spazia dalle vedute urbane e di paesaggio, al disegno di prospetti ed elementi architettonici, allo studio dei dettagli ornamentali, l'iconografia in esame rientra nel fenomeno delle “riscoperte” dell’architettura medievale siciliana, nel quale si inseriscono anche alcune delle più significative opere trecentesche, direttamente o indirettamente legate all’età dei Chiaromonte.
Superficial defects induced by argon and oxygen bombardments on (110) TiO2 surfaces

Abstract Compositional and chemical changes of titanium dioxide monocrystalline surfaces induced by bombardment with 4 keV argon and oxygen ions have been studied by AES, XPS and AFM. Argon ion bombardment induced strong changes in the composition and chemical state of the surface: loss of oxygen due to preferential sputtering occurred, and, related to this, Ti4+ species were reduced to Ti3+ and Ti2+. During oxygen bombardment, competition between preferential sputtering of oxygen ions of the oxide surface and oxygen implantation was observed.
