Intestinal atresia type III B (apple peel) and gastroschisis are both congenital malformations who require early surgical correction in neonatal age. Their association is very rare. We present the case of a full term infant with partial apple peel ileal atresia and a small defect of the anterior abdominal wall, complicated by in utero intestinal perforation and subsequent meconial peritonitis. AIM: Postoperative ileus has been considered an inevitable consequence of abdominal surgery. The aim of the study was to investigate the efficacy of same treatments in resolving postoperative ileus in various surgical approaches. METHODS: A total of 360 patients underwent abdominal surgery, and was divided into four groups: videolaparoscopic cholecystectomy, laparotomic colo-rectal surgery, laparotomic Hartmann procedure, laparotomic gastric surgery. We report a case of contrast sensitivity loss in the peripheral visual field following laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK). A 50-year-old white man was referred to us for differences in visual perception in the peripheral field between the right eye, which had had LASIK, and the left eye, which was emmetropic. Linear meridional static perimetry was carried out in the 0- to 180-degree meridian using a Goldmann perimeter to assess the peripheral perimetric thresholds. Real-time ultrasound in Crohn's disease: characteristic features and clinical implications.

Thirty-two children with Crohn's disease were evaluated by real-time ultrasonography. The typical pattern of Crohn's disease caused by bowel wall thickening is the “bull's eye phenomenon”, the elongated tubular stiff bowel loop with narrowing of the lumen and the small bowel conglomerate tumor. In indefinable abdominal complaints sonography may lead to the correct diagnosis. The differential diagnosis of similar sonographic features and the limitations of ultrasound in gastrointestinal disease must be considered. The classification according to Capella takes into account the size of the tumor ( 2 cm), the grade of invasion of other structures, the grade of angioinvasion, the biologic behaviour, the grade of differentiation and the hormonal activity of the tumor. Patients and Methods: The course of endogenous Candida endophthalmitis in 7 eyes of 5 patients (age 2 months to 76 years) was evaluated. Underlying general diseases were diagnosed as colon cancer, diverticulitis, pancreatic insufficiency (with subclavian catheter), ileus and diabetes mellitus.
