The wide-field imager for IXO: status and future activities

2010

The Wide Field Imager (WFI) of the International X-ray Observatory (IXO) is an X-ray imaging spectrometer based on a large monolithic DePFET (Depleted P-channel Field Effect Transistor) Active Pixel Sensor. Filling an area of 10 x 10 cm2 with a format of 1024 x 1024 pixels it will cover a field of view of 18 arcmin. The pixel size of 100 x 100 μm2 corresponds to a fivefold oversampling of the telescope's expected 5 arcsec point spread function. The WFI's basic DePFET structure combines the functionalities of sensor and integrated amplifier with nearly Fano-limited energy resolution and high efficiency from 100 eV to 15 keV. The development of dedicated control and amplifier ASICs allows for…

Reclaimed asphalt test specimen preparation assisted by image analysis

2015

This paper presents a laboratory investigation aimed at establishing a protocol for the production of homogeneous asphalt mixtures test specimens, incorporating reclaimed asphalt by using a gyratory compactor with coring and trimming works. Stone mastic asphalt specimens were compacted at the previously identified target densities with the final aim of obtaining specimens with a fixed and homogeneous air void distribution. A microstructural study was conducted to characterize the homogeneity in the air void distribution using X-ray computed tomography (CT) combined with image analysis techniques. The study concluded that the gyratory compactor is suitable for producing homogeneous test spec…

Electrophysiological and morphological properties of Cajal–Retzius cells with different ontogenetic origins

2010

International audience; The different origins of Cajal-Retzius cells (CRc) as well as their diverse molecular profile suggest that this cell type may represent different neuronal subpopulations. In order to investigate whether CRc from different origins show distinct functional or morphological characteristics we used transgenic Dbx1(cre);ROSA26(YFP) mice in which two subpopulations of CRc, originating from the septum and ventral pallium (VP) at the pallial-subpallial border (PSB), were permanently labeled by yellow fluorescent protein (YFP) expression. Electrophysiological properties of YFP(+) and YFP(-) CRc were investigated by whole-cell patch-clamp recordings, while a thorough somatoden…

Familien og felleskapets betydning i skoleelevenes selvpresentasjoner

2017

ABSTRACT English title: The Importance of Family and Community in St…

Polynomial Spline-Wavelets

2015

This chapter presents wavelets in the spaces of polynomial splines. The wavelets’ design is based on the Zak transform, which provides an integral representation of spline-wavelets. The exponential wavelets which participate in the integral representation are counterparts of the exponential splines that were introduced in Chap. 4. Fast algorithms for the wavelet transforms of splines are presented. Generators of spline-wavelet spaces are described, such as the B-wavelets and their duals and the Battle-Lemarie wavelets whose shifts form orthonormal bases of the spline-wavelet spaces.

Hardware Computation of Moment Functions in a Silicon Retina Using Binary Patterns

2006

International audience; We present in this paper a method for implementing moment functions in a CMOS retina for shape recognition applications. The method is based on the use of binary patterns and it allows the computation of different moment functions such geometric and Zernike moments of any orders by an adequate choice of the binary patterns. The advantages of the method over other methods described in the literature is that it is particularly suitable for the design of a programmable retina circuit where moment functions of different orders are obtained by simply loading the correct binary patterns into the memory devices implemented on the circuit. The moment values computed by the m…

PTNet: An efficient and green data center network

2017

International audience; In recent years, data centers have witnessed an exponential growth for hosting hundreds of thousands of servers as well as to accommodating a very large demand for resources. To fulfill the required level of demand, some approaches tackled network aspects so to host a huge number of servers while others focused on delivering rapid services to the clients by minimizing the path length between any two servers. In general, network devices are often designed to achieve 1:1 oversubscription. Alternatively, in a realistic data center environment, the average utilization of a network could vary between 5% and 25%, and thus the energy consumed by idle devices is wasted. This…

Weighted Adaptive Neighborhood HypergraphPartitioning for Image Segmentation

2005

International audience; The aim of this paper is to present an improvement of a previously published algorithm. The proposed approach is performed in two steps. In the first step, we generate the Weighted Adaptive Neighborhood Hypergraph (WAINH) of the given gray-scale image. In the second step, we partition the WAINH using a multilevel hypergraph partitioning technique. To evaluate the algorithm performances, experiments were carried out on medical and natural images. The results show that the proposed segmentation approach is more accurate than the graph based segmentation algorithm using normalized cut criteria.Key words hypergraph, neighborhood hypergraph, hypergraph partitioning, image…

Neighborhood Hypergraph Partitioning for Image Segmentation

2005

International audience; The aim of this paper is to introduce a multilevel neighborhoodhypergraph partitioning for image segmentation. Our proposedapproach uses the image neighborhood hypergraph model introduced inour last works and the algorithm of multilevel hypergraphpartitioning introduced by George Karypis. To evaluate the algorithmperformance, experiments were carried out on a group of gray scaleimages. The results show that the proposed segmentation approachfind the region properly from images as compared to imagesegmentation algorithm using normalized cut criteria.Key words :Graph, Hypergraph, Neighborhood hypergraph, multilevel hypergraph partitioning, image segmentation, edge dete…
