Functional distinction between Cln1p and Cln2p cyclins in the control of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae mitotic cycle.

Abstract Cln1p and Cln2p are considered as equivalent cyclins on the basis of sequence homology, regulation, and functional studies. Here we describe a functional distinction between the Cln1p and Cln2p cyclins in the control of the G1/S transition. Inactivation of CLN2, but not of CLN1, leads to a larger-than-normal cell size, whereas overexpression of CLN2, but not of CLN1, results in smaller-than-normal cells. Furthermore, mild ectopic expression of CLN2, but not of CLN1, suppresses the lethality of swi4swi6 and cdc28 mutant strains. Abstract Negative cofactor 2 (NC2) has been described as an essential and evolutionarily conserved transcriptional repressor, although in vitro and in vivo experiments suggest that it can function as both a positive and a negative effector of transcription. NC2 operates by interacting with the core promoter and components of the basal transcription machinery, like the TATA-binding protein (TBP). Sixteen hip joints of eight patients with multiple epiphyseal dysplasia were examined by clinical investigation, plain films and by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), using T1- and T2-weighted images and gradient echoes. MRI is useful in demonstrating the congruity of the joint, in the changes of the epiphyseal signal intensities and the epiphyseal line. Individual changes of the signal intensity patterns on T1- and T2-weighted scans are described. Although MRI exhibits a variety of patterns in different patients, a clearcut differentiation from Legg-Calve-Perthes' disease is possible.

Objective: to validate an instrument designed to assess practical training and measure nursing student satisfaction with clinical practice modules. Method: cross-sectional study (academic year 2014-2015). Validation of the self-administered, anonymous, 17-item Nursing Student Satisfaction with Practical Training Questionnaire, developed by consensus by eight practical training experts in three nominal group sessions. The Global Side of the Investments-Savings Puzzle

In this paper we re-examine the long standing and puzzling correlation between national savings and investment in industrial countries. We apply an econometric methodology that allows us to separate idiosyncratic correlation at the country level from correlation at the global level. In a major break with the existing literature, we find no evidence of a long run relationship in the idiosyncratic components of savings and investment. We also find that the global components in savings and investments commove, indicating that they react to shocks of a global nature.
