Rayleigh-instability-driven dewetting of thin Au and Ag films on indium-tin-oxide surface under nanosecond laser irradiations

2013

Investigations have been carried out on laser-beam-induced nanoparticle (NP) formation in thin (5 nm) Au and Ag films on indium-tin-oxide substrate. After the irradiation the films were observed to break-up into NPs through a dewetting mechanism. This mechanism was investigated as a Rayleigh-instability- driven process. In fact, for each used laser fluence, the resulting Au and Ag NPs' mean size and surface-to-surface mean distance were quantified and correlated between them in the framework of the Rayleigh-instability theory showing an excellent agreement. © The Institution of Engineering and Technology 2013.

Defects in III-N LEDs: experimental identification and impact on electro-optical characteristics

2022

III-N light-emitting-diodes (LEDs) are subject of intense investigations, thanks to their high efficiency and great reliability. The quality of the semiconductor material has a significant impact on the electro-optical performance of LEDs: for this reason, a detailed characterization of defect properties and the modeling of the impact of defects on device performance are of fundamental importance. This presentation addresses this issue, by discussing a set of recent case studies on the topic; specifically, we focus on the experimental characterization of defects, and on the modeling of their impact on the electro-optical characteristics of the devices.

Characterization of rhenium oxide films and their application to liquid crystal cells

2009

Rhenium trioxide exhibits high electronic conductivity, while its open cubic crystal structure allows an appreciable hydrogen intercalation, generating disordered solid phases, with protonic conductivity. Rhenium oxide thin films have been obtained by thermal evaporation of ReO3 powders on different substrates, maintained at different temperatures, and also by reactive magnetron sputtering of a Re metallic target. A comparative investigation has been carried out on these films, by using micro-Raman spectroscopy and x-ray diffraction. Two basic types of solid phases appear to grow in the films: a red metallic HxReO3 compound, with distorted perovskite structures, like in the bulk material, a…

β decay of 133In : γ emission from neutron-unbound states in 133Sn

2019

Excited states in 133Sn were investigated through the β decay of 133In at the ISOLDE facility. The ISOLDE Resonance Ionization Laser Ion Source (RILIS) provided isomer-selective ionization for 133In, allowing us to study separately, and in detail, the β-decay branch of 133In Jπ = (9/2+) ground state and its Jπ = (1/2−) isomer. Thanks to the large spin difference of the two β-decaying states of 133In, it is possible to investigate separately the lower and higher spin states in the daughter, 133Sn, and thus to probe independently different single-particle and single-hole levels. We report here new γ transitions observed in the decay of 133In, including those assigned to the deexcitation of th…

Investigation of the aqueous transmetalation of pi-allylpalladium with indium: some theoretical and experimental evidence about the nature of allylin…

2005

In this paper we report some theoretical and experimental evidence concerning the nature of the allyl-In intermediate generated by umpolung of allyl-Pd complexes in the Pd(OAc)(2)/TPPTS catalysed allylation reaction of benzaldehyde. The allylic substrate reacts at the substituted terminus, because of the formation of an equilibrating mixture of eta(1)-allyl-In(I) specie with the gamma-substituted regioisomer being more reactive.
